5.0 out of 5 stars Learn the flaws to look for in a home
The primary purpose of this book is to help you become an effective inspector of homes, but the audience is much broader than that. If you own a home or are thinking about buying one, then you should read it. It will help you develop that critical, discerning eye concerning what to look for in spotting flaws in a house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Smells fishy
I rated this book one star without ever reading it or buying as a means of warning everyone looking to buy it. Something smells fishy here. Not only is the author allowed to rate his own book, but other people are also allowed to rate it 5 stars more than once. Furthermore, when one clicks on those people's "see my other reviews" tab, we see that their only other...

I spent almost eight years as a construction worker, six where I was the foreman, and have performed many repairs to my own homes. And yet, there was much in the book that I was unaware of. It was a learning experience for me, and it will be for you. Unless you find the perfect house or are already an expert, buying this book and reading it will be time and money that will be returned many times over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you must know to inspect a home, April 9, 2003
This is a truly eye-opening book that I would not be without the next time I consider purchasing a new home. "The Home Inspection Business from A to Z" provides detailed information on what to look for and just how serious various problems might be. Filled with copious illustrations and photographs it is easy to see exactly the problems the author is discussing.

The coverage is extensive enough to start you in the business of home inspections and Mr. Cozi goes through the details of what is necessary to begin such a venture. Areas discussed include heating systems, air conditioning systems, water heaters, foundations, plumbing, septic, electrical systems, roofs, walls, decks, flooring, and just about anything else you can think of. Before reading the book I had no idea the number of potentially serious problems that can be easily discovered with a minimal inspection and some basic knowledge. This is a highly recommended book for anyone looking to purchase a new home, considering purchasing a home for investment purposes, or looking to start a new business.

When I was thinking about becoming a home inspector I checked out all of the books I could find on the topic. This book was fantastic and really tells you the truth about becoming a home inspector and how to inspect your own home. I recommend this book to my all of my home inspection clients so they can use it while living in their homes. I even keep several copies of the book on CD at my office to send out with my inspection reports to inspector clients that want to buy it and review it with their reports.

Excellent! I have a large library of books dealing with many real estate topics. I found this book to be by far the best available for home inspection advice. It even gives a lot of information about going into business as a home inspector since it's written for both the home buyer and for people looking for a home-based business as an inspector.

Home inspectors are here to stay, and their services are not only needed, but are also desired in today's fluctuating economy. Home inspectors check out a home before purchase by prospective buyers to help determine the existing conditions of a home - they can also tell the prospective home buyer what repairs and upgrades might be needed.
These problem spotters, and solvers, earn hundreds of dollars for their expertise, and can help save potential homebuyers thousands of dollars on repairs and upgrades. A home inspector performs a visual inspection - he identifies potential problems in a wealth of areas. he can spot trouble in septic and well water systems, and with gas and water connections, among dozens of others, including heating, air conditioning, and electrical and plumbing systems.
Author Cozzi, in a step-by-step, vastly illustrated guide shows the reader, homeowner, or potential home inspector, exactly what to look for, both on the exterior of a home and its interior. He shows the prospective inspector how to properly fill out reports, how to handle clients, and how to maintain accurate reports and records.
Using his vast knowledge and experience, Mr. Cozzi has the uncanny ability to take what is thought to be a convoluted process and simplify it with his easy writing style, one which entertains as it instructs, which with most 'how-to' books, is no easy feat. His narrative is extremely reader-friendly and amazingly informative at the same time, guiding the reader along on a discourse of everything that is expected of a home inspector.
Mr. Cozzi has appeared in local and national newspapers, offering real estate advice. And it's easy to see why. He's the expert. This book should be required reading for every home owner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly informative and helpful - best real estate book!, November 20, 2002
By
Carol Regman (Rochester, New York) - See all my reviews
This was the best real estate book I ever read! I saved a lot of money when buying my home with the information I learned in this book. I read a number of books to learn about real estate before buying my home and this was far better than all of them. I recommended it to three of my friends. The CD-Rom has all the benefits of a book plus digital color photos with full search and zoom features that I loved and made reading the book much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Saved me $2,000 and filled with great advice, November 20, 2002
By A Customer
When I bought this book I never realized how much advice I would get from it. I saved two thousand dollars when purchasing a home by following this advice and I was able to detect problems that the home inspector I hired didn't even find. My home inspector was very embarrased when I pointed out problems that he didn't detect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Home inspections explained in excellent detail, February 20, 2003
Some of the newspaper reviews I read about this book said it was excellent so I thought I buy the book to find out for myself. They were right since after reading this book I think it really "tells you the facts that other books don't tell you" as noted by the cover. I don't think I could find a better inspection book on the market than this one. Inspecting and maintaining my home will be much easier for me after learning what's in this book. Highly recommended to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book in it's category!, February 18, 2003
By
Elliot Jay (Washington, D.C.) - See all my reviews
We have a home inspection business and all of our inspectors use this book to learn what they need to know. Even people new to the business of home inspections can learn everything they need to know quickly and extensively with this book. There are many photographs which are explained in detail showing problem conditions and repair issues. A picture is worth a thousand words - which is certainly true with this book because it's a lot easier to understand any technical items discussed in the book with the many photos with their written explanations. You can't go wrong with this one!
