5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book!
Someone at work once said "I may as well buy my kids "Grand Theft Auto" because they'll just sneak around and play it at their friend's houses anyway." I said "yes, but they'll be sneaking, they'll know they're sneaking, and they'll know they're sneaking because you don't approve of it and that it's wrong." 3.0 out of 5 stars Preaches to the choir and not what I expected.
I suppose this book would be a good wake-up call for any parent out there who cares about their childrens' futures and does not yet realize that there are an army of amoral individuals out there in our culture that seek to make money off our children any way they can.

I found this book's srengths to be in the opening few chapters where the author names names...

People need to take responsibility and tell their children what is right and wrong, otherwise they won't know.
I was already following the advice in this great book, if society wants to corrupt my kids with "cultural terrorism" they'll have to get through me to do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for all those involved in a child's upbringing, April 12, 2005

Rebecca Hagelin's new book outlines how all parents should run their households. In today's society our children are over-exposed to adult situations and Hagelin's book gives brilliant suggestions on how to put an immediate stop to this exposure. All parents, expectant parents, child-care providers and even grandparents should take time to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Guide To Raising Teens, August 2, 2005
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Home Invasion: Protecting Your Family in a Culture that's Gone Stark Raving Mad (Hardcover)
Home Invasion is one of the most thought provoking books on our culture war. Rebecca Hagelin basically lays it all out in sometimes frank language on the pressures facing our teens via the media and culture. She is not promoting 100% sheltering rather getting lazy parents motivated in standing up for what is truly good for our kids.

First of all, let me say that some people who have bashed this book have been very unfair and probably did not really read the book. This woman is not talking about sheltering or locking up your kids at all. Period. In fact, she encourages letting go of your kids and building trust and privileges. She stresses kids need to know right from wrong and to have limits. Go, go back and read this book cover to cover.

It is true that kids and teens are not allowed to grow up on their own. The current pop culture wants kids to learn about all kinds of sexuality at a very young age and they want them to look adult by 10! Ms. Hagelin points out many ways she has had to explain things to her kids that they really aren't ready for. Many of her examples are eye openers. What she points out in this book makes sense and if we parents don't take a stand now, the future of our country values is in grave danger.

There have been many books written on the current culture war and many want to draw a line along party lines. Ms. Hagelin makes no secrets as to how she votes however, she points out that there are many "family values Democrats" out there and this book should not offend those of another party. She truly believes that all parents, regardless of political party, race or religion should get involved on the family side of the culture war.

This is one of the best books currently out about how to fight the culture war for your family. A must buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read! Don't miss the RESOURCE LIST in the back!, November 27, 2005

This review is from: Home Invasion: Protecting Your Family in a Culture that's Gone Stark Raving Mad (Hardcover)
By the time you read the book jacket, you know where Hagelin is coming from & you probably already have your mind made up which side of the culture war you are on.
Me? I'm fully on board with her philosophy, so there weren't alot of surprises. But it was a worthwhile -- and rather quick read. The best part for me was the reassurance that "I'm not alone" and Hagelin's encouragement to seek out like minded parents & encourage & support one another -- rather than just withdraw from the culture. I was also moved that Hagelin did not 'beat up' parents she disagreed with. She is strong in her convictions, yet gentle in her delivery.
To those who think she is "overprotecting" kids and not preparing them for life: Don't miss the amazing story of letting a group of teens on a bicycle trip. Or encouraging teens to take a road trip (I'm not going to explain it all here.) Hagelin truly shows that there is a big difference between fostering REAL maturity & real-world responsibility and simply exposing them to vulgarity. To put it another way: exposure to what is erroneous called "mature" themes is not what makes one mature.
I have a feeling she won't 'convert' her critics with this book, but it is a good booster shot for people already (at least partially) in her camp. Enjoy it & be encouraged!

4.0 out of 5 stars Required reading, April 19, 2005
This review is from: Home Invasion: Protecting Your Family in a Culture that's Gone Stark Raving Mad (Hardcover)
One of the reasons we homeschool is not to take our kid out of the world, but to prepare her to enter it. Rebecca's mature, thoughtful and vulnerable insights and encouragements codifies this philosophy. I'm grateful to read ideas that my wife and I have held to for years in written form. Warning - do not read this book unless you intend to do something in your circle of influence. The result of reading Home Invasion will leave you with a desire to reach out to your world, not withdraw from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read, April 11, 2005
This review is from: Home Invasion: Protecting Your Family in a Culture that's Gone Stark Raving Mad (Hardcover)
Ms. Hagelin could not be more on the mark. This book is a must read by any parent concerned about the welfare of their children and family in the crazy world we find ourselves in today. Every important aspect on the assault on the family is covered thoroughly and thoughtfully. It is about time we had something this useful in the fight to preserve the American family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this book!, June 7, 2005
This review is from: Home Invasion: Protecting Your Family in a Culture that's Gone Stark Raving Mad (Hardcover)
Whether you have children or not you should read this book. Everyone should know and be thinking about ways to help our children, nieces, nephews and friends to fight back in a world where anything goes and goodness doesn't prevail. Anything you want, you can get, no matter the price. Materialism is valued and moms and dads are taken away from what really matters, to pay for all this stuff.

This book is chalk full of resources for everything you could imagine. I myself am going to check out magazines for young ladies. Great book, well written and one to be pulled out to be re-read!

I have been reading Rebecca's columns for years. They are always sensible and well-written. It is such a relief to know that women with traditional values are still out there who have the brains, the guts and the intelligence to put their foot down. This is a great book. I preordered it and my wife and I think this is one of the best books of its kind. Young parents need help and they need to be reminded they have the power and the authority to NOT TOLERATE THE INTOLERABLE.

There is an old prayer about HOLY HATRED. yes, HOLY HATRED.
OH MAKE US MEN AND WOMEN OF THE BURNING HEART that we may HATE ALL EVIL AND LOVE ALL MEN. Set us aflame with passion for a transformed world where sin is banished and love shall reign...etc.

Young parents need to be AWARE...Rebecca Hagelin's book helps make parents aware of real dangers out there that could ensnare or corrupt innocent kids.

You parents need reinforcement....and good common sense to fight off the HOME INVASION of the modernists of the left who want to destroy all private life and destroy the possibilty to let kids have their innocent childhood. I can really say that years ago my mother was innocent at age 21. My own children are wonderful but their age of innocence is much shorter. By 10 they already have been exposed to too much. One thing is certain Rebecca Hegelin is wise, witty and absolutely trustworthy. University deans are not....most are wimps...many principals have through in the towel. Today it is heaven knowns anything goes for kids 16 and up. Parents! Don't lose your kids and don't let them get lost. READ THIS BOOK. STUDY IT ! You will praise REBECCA HAGELIN the rest of your lives and your children wil too!!! I am a teacher and I am a parent and I found myself almost in complete agreement with almost everything in this book. This book deserves to be read by a whole generation of young parents...BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!
