4.0 out of 5 stars Coming Home and Chilling Out May 31, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Home was one of a number of deeply felt and unfortunately now-neglected albums released under the Inner City label in the mid-70s. This one finds Ken McIntyre exploring a variety of genres, ranging from plaintive ballads to calypso-inspired romps to street-corner funk. It is all done with warmth and intelligence. McIntyre is joined by expert sidemen, including the always fascinating Jaki Byard on piano and ex-Coltrane compatriot Reggie Workman on bass. The music is splendid, the solos inventive and there isn't a weak moment in the mix. Try it, Home is a great place to be.
