Far From A Complete Picture...,

No disrespect to the film's Irish creator. This film glosses over some realities of living in NYC. Other glaring omissions come to mind when watching as well. The reality, is that the current regime has finished destroying the very character (& true beauty) of the city. Financial pressures have made the city very top-heavy. Where before you had various cultures assimilating, & forming this wonderful "Melting Pot." Now, the financial forces have removed most people who don't make six figures from the mix. The remaining, struggling cultures are now polarized into their own communities. The ultimate barriers are financial. Most understand this, & so erect a few walls of their own to insulate themselves. I am a New Yorker, born & raised. It's a disgusting testament to the decay that was once a great country. We were once more than the sum of our parts. That is no more. IMHO, this film doesn't address this crucial facet of its story. It comes across as a half-measure, as a result. Bets of luck the the film's creator. He seems like a nice guy.

Home is where the heart is,
By Annie "Annie Sutton" (PB, NY, SH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Home (Amazon Instant Video)
Home is a beautiful, poetic journey and discovery of New York City seen through the eyes of an Irish immigrant and the lens of a passionate New Yorker. This talented poet and cinematographer have captured the beauty of our beloved city. Home reminds us all that if you have been touched by the city it will occupy a place in your heart forever. It doesn't matter if you were born here, merely live here for a short time, or pass through New York it is Home and Home is New York. A beautiful film that should not be missed. I would love to see this on the big screen.

A Visual Poem,
By
This review is from: Home (Amazon Instant Video)
"Home" is a stunning visual poem about New York and the concept of home. I'm an immigrant who's been living in New York for forty years and this film summed up my feelings about immigration and about the city in a way that I could never articulate. The interviews with famous New Yorkers such as Liam Neeson, Susan Sarandon and even Mike Myers, are special candid moments in which they describe how the city has transformed their lives, just like the Irish immigrant, Alan Cooke, who we follow in the film. His journey is one of change and he struggles with this, just as the native New Yorkers struggle with the constant changing of their city! The McCourts are great too, sharing their great Irish wisdom. Rosie Perez and Fran Lebowitz (the writer, not the photographer) provide many out loud laughs. The cinematography is beautiful as is the powerful Irish music and poetic narration. Why wasn't this in theatres??? I highly recommend!
