5.0 out of 5 stars Home is where the heart is
Home is a beautiful, poetic journey and discovery of New York City seen through the eyes of an Irish immigrant and the lens of a passionate New Yorker. This talented poet and cinematographer have captured the beauty of our beloved city. Home reminds us all that if you have been touched by the city it will occupy a place in your heart forever. It doesn't matter if you...

No disrespect to the film's Irish creator. This film glosses over some realities of living in NYC. Other glaring omissions come to mind when watching as well. The reality, is that the current regime has finished destroying the very character (& true beauty) of the city. Financial pressures have made the city very top-heavy. Where before you had various cultures assimilating, & forming this wonderful "Melting Pot." Now, the financial forces have removed most people who don't make six figures from the mix. The remaining, struggling cultures are now polarized into their own communities. The ultimate barriers are financial. Most understand this, & so erect a few walls of their own to insulate themselves. I am a New Yorker, born & raised. It's a disgusting testament to the decay that was once a great country. We were once more than the sum of our parts. That is no more. IMHO, this film doesn't address this crucial facet of its story. It comes across as a half-measure, as a result. Bets of luck the the film's creator. He seems like a nice guy.

It doesn't matter if you were born here, merely live here for a short time, or pass through New York it is Home and Home is New York. A beautiful film that should not be missed. I would love to see this on the big screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Home" is worth watching!, July 8, 2009

I was impressed by the poetry of "Home," visually as well as aurally. Dawn Scibilia's
images are lustrous, giving New York a look that is fresh and memorable.
This lyrical documentary features many famous New Yorkers, whose remarks
work beautifully in counterpoint to the narration.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Visual Poem, July 3, 2009
This review is from: Home (Amazon Instant Video)
"Home" is a stunning visual poem about New York and the concept of home. I'm an immigrant who's been living in New York for forty years and this film summed up my feelings about immigration and about the city in a way that I could never articulate. The interviews with famous New Yorkers such as Liam Neeson, Susan Sarandon and even Mike Myers, are special candid moments in which they describe how the city has transformed their lives, just like the Irish immigrant, Alan Cooke, who we follow in the film. His journey is one of change and he struggles with this, just as the native New Yorkers struggle with the constant changing of their city! The McCourts are great too, sharing their great Irish wisdom. Rosie Perez and Fran Lebowitz (the writer, not the photographer) provide many out loud laughs. The cinematography is beautiful as is the powerful Irish music and poetic narration. Why wasn't this in theatres??? I highly recommend!

Members of Desert Film Society in Palm Springs, CA had the pleasure of screening HOME on the big screen. The theatre has a professional projectionist so everything was looking as great as possible. Everyone who saw this film used the words "love poem to New York." As others have commented - whether or not you've walked the streets, HOME transmits an attachment to the city. Our members embraced the film as I'm sure you will. Beautiful cinematography, well edited, excellent soundtrack and great interviews with people we have all come to consider 'real' New Yorkers make this film a real feel good 70 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Home will make you want to move to New York, July 9, 2009
This review is from: Home (Amazon Instant Video)
If you are not already passionate about New York, this movie will take you over the edge. The movie will romance you with its spectacular views and the hidden jewels it finds all over the city. . . you will love to hear the celebs and especially the NYC celebs talk about why they love it too.

You will have a blast watching this movie, over and over again, as it takes you on a journey and each time, you find out something you didn't know. Trust me - you'll love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Made a Foreigner in My Home, January 24, 2012
This review is from: Home (Amazon Instant Video)
I enjoyed this film but did not identify with it. You see, I am a fist generation born in New York and this is in fact my home. Yet, many times I feel displaced from my own home and treated as if I were also an immigrant form another country. The odd thing is that it is from those who are not from New York.
See New York for the eyes of generations of immigrants born in New York who have become multi-cultural with many cultures diversity in NYC, yet with a strong sense of being a true New Yorker who knows no other home; yet at times feel displaced, a foreigner in his own home.
I love New York and resent how native New Yorkers many times have to leave their home to venture else were in order to just be able to live. I dread thinking that some day it will be my turn to flee from home, die, and be berried else were instead of my home; NEW YORK.
Good movie, yet the children of immigrants born in New York were forgotten.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good NYC pictorial, December 12, 2011

I watched this on my PC yesterday and thought it had some great scenes. I also liked the insertion of vintage clips within the current photography as it led a very graphic feel to the flat viewing surface on the PC screen.
I felt it was an interesting journey about the people who were picked to talk during the ongoing visual background. It is not a tourist advertisement. I already loved New York City before I viewed it and it made me fall in love again. The speaker who said if you didn't hit the pace of NYC when you visited you would hate it and I took a friend there and she never hit the pace and did in fact hate the city.

5.0 out of 5 stars "HOME", WHERE THE HEART RESTS & THE MIND SOARS!, October 7, 2011

Most of us have someplace we think of as Home, while others have places they call, Home---regardless---and this cinematic collaboration captures that essence in such a way that, even a non New Yorker feels or senses the metaphysical bonds intersecting ages, neighborhoods, and histories, loves and hates that encompass why millions upon millions realistically find New York as mystical as the mythical Camelot.

"Dawn Scibilia", "Alan Cooke", and their Production Crew present legendary New York, its grandeur and legendary mythology in the eyes and thoughts of some of the people that have become knowingly transfixed as native New Yorkers, no matter if they immigrated from another State, or another Country. "HOME" is a nice little documentary, with a slight glimpse into the personal experience and persepective of a few Celebrity, providing an understanding to why this great City has garnered the favor of so many... ---GBJ
