About the Author

Claire Ptak trained as a pastry chef for Alice Waters at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California, before moving to London with her husband, where she started Violet Cakes, her stall at the popular Broadway Market in East London. Since 2005, She has sold cupcakes and other treats to a loyal following, including Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson and Thomasina Miers. Claire styles the weekly Ottolenghi column in The Guardian Weekend and writes seasonal recipe blogs for The Guardian website.

More About the Author

Claire Ptak is an American pastry chef, formerly of legendary Chez Panisse restaurant in California. She moved to London in 2005 and founded Violet Cakes featuring delicious, American-style cakes and treats made with seasonal, natural, and organic ingredients. She began selling them at the Broadway Market, then in 2010, opened Violet, her acclaimed bakery and café in Hackney. Violet has been featured in American Vogue, Red magazine, Timeout, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Susie Bubble visited Violet on Monki TV and Jamie Oliver calls Claire "my favourite cake maker in the whole world."

Claire is also a food stylist and the author of three cookbooks: Leon: Baking & Puddings; The Whoopie Pie Book; and The Home-Made Sweet Shop. She is currently writing her fourth cookbook--a tome of recipes and stories from the market stall and bakery of a Californian transplanted to East London.
