Finally a book that breaks down how to approach a design project they way the professionals do.
I love the mix of high and low, and the fact that there is storage in almost every project is genius.
Great job Novos

I have never been more thankful to have ignored negative reviews than I am with this purchase. The Novogratz, with their brand of fun interior decor, were one of the forces that got me started on this obsession with interior design. If you check out any of my reviews, unlike some other people's history, I've actually purchased many, many books on the subject in the past year since this obsession started and I've provided numerous reviews on different books on the subject...and there are still more reviews to come on books I just haven't finished yet...so you can see how much I love this field. I had waited to purchase this book just because of the negative reviews. I thought...do I really want to purchase a book that is essentially just rehashing their show? I mean, after all the title is 'Home by Novogratz' which is the same as their HGTV show so it wasn't like they were trying to hide anything. I've purchased Candice Olson books which are a rehashing of her shows and I've never been disappointed so I thought, lets just go for it. I'm so glad I did! I completely disagree that this books panders to the mass market. Mass market isn't interested in neon appliances or wallpaper on their ceiling, nor are they interested in graffiti'd walls and swinging beds, let alone a lot of the color combinations. Mass market is generally neutral, and the Novogratz are anything but. The first book was on projects that were done prior to their 'fame', so it makes sense that this book contains projects done for the past two seasons of their HGTV show and even includes some other projects which either haven't aired yet or were personal projects. I love being able to go back and see these beautiful spaces and get the breakdown on costs.Read more ›

I just spent a delightful afternoon perusing the Novogratz's new book. Even though I have seen the rooms redone on their T.V. show, seeing them in print is really helpful. The projects come across much better in print, the colors seem to make more sense, and it's fun to read all of the sidebars and extra hints they include. They have such a unique style, and many of the projects are of smaller rooms, which most of us deal with in our own lives. I'm sure I will be referring to this book again.

I learned so much from this book, which is much more than just a coffee table book full of pretty pictures. The reader sees the budget for each room, how the money was spent, design plans and valuable suggestions for making pricey items like countertops and cabinetry more affordable. I appreciate the mix of vintage and new furniture pieces, as well as the placement of art that is selected to coordinate not only with each room, but to suit the personalities of the people using the room. I feel that Cortney pays very close attention to the needs and wishes of her clients and it shows.

I love the Novogratz style of decorating. This book has a lot of pictures in it which I love in a home decor book. I like the break down of how much things were paid for in each renovation. If you watch the show you will have seen these houses already, nothing new here, but it is nice to revisit each home. My only complaint would be the way description boxes are over each photo, covering the view of the picture at times. Over all a great book and a good addition to any Home Decor book collection.

Not many people can afford to spend the money they recommend in this book. Maybe a cute ideas you could copy for a cheaper price but with the amount of decorating material out there, a better book is bound to be found.

Had seen the Novogratz's, loved their "look," and wanted to see examples of it that I could examine in detail. The book consists of a series of projects, each distinct, that are presented in before and after fashion. Paint colors, lighting fixtures, furniture: the details you want to know are discussed, and their choices explained. There's just enough text, and lots of great photographs. And I like the fact that they don't insist on using expensive pieces only. In all, a very useful (and engaging) book.
