Book Description

August 18, 2009
Papercrafts have as strong and loyal a following as ever, and with Home, Paper, Scissors, paper devotees can now create a beautiful collection of projects to accent their homes and to give as gifts.

They’re quick and simple to create—most take just an hour or two to make and involve only simple cutting, folding, and gluing. Yet the outcomes are stunning. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Zapata incorporates earthy colors and sleek, organic style into projects that will have people asking, "Is that really made from paper?"

Divided into sections on decorating, entertaining, and gifting, the book features pieces ranging from lamps to bowls to keepsake boxes and journals. For anyone who’s striving to live a greener life, most of the more than 30 projects can be made from recycled materials such as brown bags, manila folders, magazines, and even junk mail.

Pick your paper, grab a pair of scissors, and get started folding your way toward a one-of-a-kind home accessory or handmade gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly simple and inviting. January 5, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
With beautiful photography, easy-to-follow directions, and materials specifically selected to be accessible and found around the home, Home, Paper, Scissors is a great paper crafting manual. Many of the projects are simple and inviting enough to share with my young children, while others, though more challenging, result in stunning and sophisticated finished pieces that belie their common materials composition.

As a paper crafter myself, one of the aspects I like best about Zapata's book is the invitation to vary the materials and design of so many of the projects. Because most of the ideas are so beautifully basic, they can easily be added to or tweaked to create different looks and more complicated designs. Zapata, herself, offers many suggestions and tips for customizing the projects, allowing for different aesthetics and uses.

Fans of Zapata's blog, A Little Hut, will appreciate the stripped down, modern style of these projects, as well as Zapata's clear and pleasant descriptions. It's beautiful as a coffee table book, accessible as a crafting guide, and inspiring as an artist's portfolio. I highly recommend this book.

This book was okay. Didn't care for all of the crafts. Only liked a select few. However, the photos were good and the instructions were understandable.

1.0 out of 5 stars uninspired
I was sad that trees were actually wasted on this book, which trickled down somehow from the superfluity of crafty blogland.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Basic
As an artist, I was hoping for technique on paper cutting, and found this book
disappointing. Most of the examples were handicrafts at their simplest. Read more
