Schnaser, editor of Trade Secrets: Tips and Hints from the Pros (Rodale Pr., 1988), has written a basic but informative book detailing 118 particular home emergency situations. He provides simple instructions for the otherwise unskilled or unfamiliar homeowner in dealing with the immediate situation, and offers tips for preventing future catastrophes. While there are certainly more than 118 potentially serious situations in the home environment, the book serves as a fine discussion opener. Homeowners will be encouraged to speak with a trusted hardware dealer, a more knowledgeable friend, or a tradesperson. Suggestions are also included for basic, intermediate, and advanced tools. The index, unfortunately, suffers from a lack of direct subject access. For large public libraries.
