4.0 out of 5 stars The Homeschooling Father
Great to see something targeted at the Fathers role for Homeschoolers. My husband felt a little left out of the Homeschool process as we began as well as a little uncertain of how everything would work. A good support material and reinforcement. So necessary to have a strong male role especially when raising 3 boys.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent read
I was expecting a bit too much out of this book. I am a home schooling father, and was looking for a bit of brass tacks advice on getting better involved in my kids' classical education. It is a fairly easy read, but there's just not much substance. Honestly, the most detailed chapter is the one about getting your kids involved in government. I suppose that shouldn't be...

5.0 out of 5 stars We all need a kick in the pants!, July 29, 2002
1) Book is short because it is straight to the point. Unlike many books I read they are about 50% fully of examples. Examples and stories that prove the point are many times necessary and usefull but I really liked that he simply stated his point and moved on. Thus I read this book in about an hour and a half.
2) He hits on the major things we as Christian men should be doing. I believe if we are fulling our responsibilities then everything else will fall into place.
3) Don't mistake this book being short as not having value. Even though I read it in less than two hours I have about 2 months of planning of how to incorporate the ideas shared into my life or how I need to work at some new habits (or old habits that have been forgotten) in order to set the example for my kids.
4) Many times I'll read a book and not agree with certain parts of it...which is ok, since the key is that we learn and grow from some portion of what we read. In this book, every chapter presented I had no argument against and thus was left with a sense of responsibility that I could no longer avoid in certain areas of my life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading, but Not Landmark, January 2, 2011

Even if not homeschooling your kids, I think every father should read this. I was very, very convicted in regards to my ownership of my kid's education (especially spiritually), and leadership in my family. A very quick read. It lays out some great outlines and practical tips. I will say that the author's current job and career as a lawyer in education comes through strongly. I would have liked to have seen other well known or respected thought leaders or authors referenced or even mentioned. That might make the book more comprehensive and thorough.

I suppose that shouldn't be surprising considering the author's passions. (The edition I own is littered with horrible typos and even obvious draft notes.) Even so, it's worth the read.
