5.0 out of 5 stars It feels like- Home - Sheena
Sheena Easton's Home cd was a sheer delight to listen to. I found a great deal on it from Japan and purchased it and the cd arrived today. It features 10 songs and a few of them are her slow versions and some are so touching, 1 made me cry honestly. Sheena and Laura Branigan who were first artists in my life. 3.0 out of 5 stars Something Good
It's been long enough since Sheena Easton put out a record that has as much to offer as "Home" does. Each of the ten tracks here are a revelation. That's not to say that the album is entirely a success on its own. "Our House" is as bland as a pop song can get and "My Treasure Is You" is Sheena's attempt at replicating Britney Spears'...

5.0 out of 5 stars She's back! Phenomenal! Her best in years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, July 19, 1999

Alright, so Sheena Easton hasn't exactly been on the charts lately, Hell, she hasn't even released anything in America! But I can tell you one thing, if she or whoever has control over these things doesn't release this album in the states, they are INSANE!

I've been a faithful Sheena fan since the beginning of her career, and I can truly say that this is probably her best album to date! I think the fact that she produced the whole thing herself, has quite a bit to do with that. Let's face it, she's been around the block in the music business, she's had high points and low, she's got incredible range, she can sing anything, and she's got enough albums under her belt to prove these points.

She's finally taking control and it's showing. The remakes of Our House and St. Judy's Comet are oustanding! All the tracks have a certain power and you can feel pride and emotion in her voice.

Sheena Easton is on her way back on her own terms and she's doing it by producing some damn good stuff, not since No Strings has she done an album that I can't wait to lend to everyone I know.

5.0 out of 5 stars This "dream" CD can "carry" you through a day!!!!, August 17, 1999

There have been CD's that I would buy just for the name, and this was one of those CD's. When I heard Sheena Easton has the new CD out, I bought it without a sample of any of the songs on there. I knew that because it said "Sheena Easton" on it, it had to be good. Well, I was NOT disappointed.

This CD really proves why Sheena Easton was a force in the 1980's. Her voice only gets better with age and has aged even better than the finest of wines. There is not a song on this CD that Sheena cannot deliver to the audience listening to her.

Among the well-picked songs, "Moon" really stands out as my favorite. I have always been a HUGE fan of Sheena Easton, the ballad singer. This song shows me just why I am that huge fan. It is very, very engulfing and just takes you over.

Also, I have to mention the AWESOME track, "Carry A Dream." If anyone out there needs an inspirational song in an hour of need, look no farther than this track! "Carry A Dream's" lyrics are some of the MOST BEAUTIFUL lyrics I have EVER read in my life and the left me feeling very positive and ready to attain goals. Leave it to Sheena to deliver this single with perfection and ease. This, along with "Moon," are the highlights of the CD!

All in all, this is one of Sheena's BEST offerings to date. She shows that she is just as much of a diva now as she ever was and backs it up with a stellar CD. I commend Sheena for all she is doing now with her music and her family. She is truly a class act!!!!

It's been long enough since Sheena Easton put out a record that has as much to offer as "Home" does. Each of the ten tracks here are a revelation. That's not to say that the album is entirely a success on its own. "Our House" is as bland as a pop song can get and "My Treasure Is You" is Sheena's attempt at replicating Britney Spears' success. There is also one too many remakes on the CD, which takes away from the freshness of the entire project. Particulary irksome is the unecessary reworking of "Never Saw A Miracle."

But even with all of its weaknesses, "Home" is still a showcase for an exceptional voice who now values the art of making music over the business of marketing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Home sweet "Home", June 9, 2000
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
Gone are the days Sheena Easton purrs about her "Sugar Walls" and doing "What Comes Naturally." Starting with 1993's surprisingly strong set of jazz standards, "No Strings," and 1995's criminally overlooked "My Cherie," the Scottish diva has been slowly but surely making the transition from dance diva to mature pop artist. 1999's "Home" cements her new status.

Breathing new life into Graham Nash's "Our House" and Paul Simon's "St. Judy's Comet," Easton hardly sounds like the same girl who used to sing Prince tunes and make videos that were strikingly similar to her bare-midriffed commercials for Bally's Total Fitness. The wails and whimpers her dancier material used to call for are replaced here with subtle nuances that we never knew she had. She even manages a striking take on Stephen Sondheim's "Not While I'm Around" (sounding a bit like Streisand) and forges a respectable piece of white-girl gospel on a soaring reading of Curtis Stigers' "Never Saw a Miracle."

And while ballads are the rule on "Home," two cuts make strong, favorable exceptions: "Something Good" is a lightly funky track that Amy Grant might have warmed to, and "Who Knows" is a strikingly stripped-down piece of piano pop. Sadly, the album runs out of steam on its last three cuts: "Carry Me Home" is another would-be gospel number weighted down with cliched lyrics: "there's a bridge over the water/I see it like a rainbow/carry me to the other side"...which, loosely translated, is equal to "blah, blah, blah." "My Treasure is You" is a stab at a club single, and while the beats measure up, the maternal lyrics about cherishing someone's every heartbeat and watching them as they grow are sleepily predictable. The album's closer, however, "Carry a Dream," is the worst of all, sounding like an item from the Whitney Houston leftover bin.

But luckily these tracks don't sink the album as much as you might think. Maturity and musical growth are the strongest elements here, making "Home" an exciting and compelling chapter of Sheena Easton's career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD!!, April 7, 2001

I have been a Sheena Easton fan since Morning Train in the 80s and I have to say this is one of her best cds to date. I have seen so many reviews about it on this site, all good that I had to pique my curiosity and buy it and I am not the least disappointed, I like all the songs my favorite is "My Treasure Is You" it has a catchy tune and can lift you up. The rest of the songs when I have had a bad day and can't get my mind to rest and think positive I listen to this cd and it puts my mind to rest so I can relax and feel good again. So by all means if you are a Sheena Easton fan or know of someone that is tell them they won't be disappointed if they buy this cd. GREAT JOB Ms. Easton!

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Way From Home, November 21, 2000

HOLLYWOOD--Sheena Easton, known to many in the States by courtesy of "Suggar Walls", "The Lover In Me" and "Morning Train", delivers a low profile album of A/C material for MCA Japan. The set opens with a very sweet, fluffy version of "Our House" and closes with the first single, a thunderous power-ballad, "Carry A Dream" from the film, Marco.

Other stand out tracks include "Something Good", "St Jude's Comet", "My Treasure Is You", "Moon" and "Take Me Home". Worth checking out, while it's still in print.

3.0 out of 5 stars better than freedom, but..., December 28, 1999

compared to her previous album, "freedom", this one is definitely better, but on its own, "home" suffers from more than its share of ill-chosen songs, the worst being "our house". she does redeem herself in "not while i'm around" and "moon". still it's not something i would rush to the store for...especially if it's available as an import.

OK so I found this CD by following a link from Sheena site www.sheenaweb.com or I would never have known about it. What a joy this is the best CD she has put out in over a decade! Just listen to Carry A Dream or Moon and you will be as puzzled as I am about why she's not as famous as she once was.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sheena shows us she's still around with great new songs, June 12, 1999
By
This review is from: Home (Audio CD)
I actually found the CD by surprise looking for the reissue (1st US pressing) of NO SOUND BUT A HEART. Compared to FREEDOM, this new album tops it. This is the Sheena sound I like, more to like her early 80's beginnings. CARRY A DREAM is a beautiful ballad and is a major stand out. My album favorite is MY TREASURE IS YOU, a great pop dance number. If this album does not get her a new US label, then something is wrong with the US music business.
