Book Description

October 25, 1995
Through the use of "before" and "after" plans, this text offers the architect and the client a more cost-effective way of re-designing a typical residential layout. Each floor plan shows the original design with graphic devices to demonstrate how the design changes were made.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Temple explains residential space planning by presenting case studies that depict existing rooms followed by floor plans for remodeling alternatives. Homeowners can use this book to develop some understanding of how a designer approaches the problems encountered when redesigning a house. But the case study format could limit its use because unimaginative homeowners might become frustrated with examples that don't exactly reflect their situations. The primary value of the book will be as a text for students-and even practicing builders and designers-that shows how to illustrate various solutions when adapting a remodeling project to a client's needs and budget.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to fix a floorplan, December 21, 2000
By
This review is from: Home Space Planning: A Guide for Architects, Designers, and Home Owners (Hardcover)
Home Space Planning is a collection of 20 problem floorplans, each with 2-20 modifications (in increasing complexity and difficulty) suggested by the architect.

Though the book is 80% pictures, the short paragraphs describing the problems and solutions pictured quickly teach one the remodeler's art. You'll learn to quickly identify a problem kitchen or a noisy bedroom, and learn a variety of fixing tricks -- from rearranging cabinets to moving walls to adding a second floor.
