4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice but a pain to put together!
Once you get this put together, it's a terrific item. The color is rich, it has a lot of compartments and the size isn't bad. I'm 5'7" and can sit at it comfortably. The box tells you it's a two man job and believe me, it is. My husband and I put this together late one Saturday night. He's handy, thank goodness. The hardest part is that you put the top together...

This item has a nice finish but is poorly constructed. Many of the camlock holes were missing the plastic screw thread insert which makes that lock unusable and affects the stability of the armoire. The doors are crooked and even after adjustments they cant be properly aligned. The screw holes for the door hinges were stripped. The main shelf dowels did not line up with...

The box tells you it's a two man job and believe me, it is. My husband and I put this together late one Saturday night. He's handy, thank goodness. The hardest part is that you put the top together and the bottom together as separate units. Then, you have to take the top part, which you put together UPSIDE DOWN and lift it onto the bottom part and align it with the screws on the bottom unit. Not an easy task - it's heavy! We finally got it done and are still married. It looks great and I'm happy to have it but I will never buy anything like this again.

The main shelf dowels did not line up with the holes which forced me to re-drill them. At the cost, one would expect a better quality product. If it was not for the time I spent assembling it and the size of the armoire I would return it. Sincerely, Rob Biron

4.0 out of 5 stars Really nice but short, November 2, 2003

This is a really great armoire that is made very well. It features three compartments (one with a pull out wood drawer) above the moniter area. My imac fits it in perfectly but I was very suprised by the height! I'm only 5'3 and the top comes up to my mouth when I'm standing. I guess I should have looked better at the diminsions but was just kind of expecting a full sized armoire. I love the corkboard and the dry erase board on the inside of the upper doors, as well as the letter holders in the lower section. Nice armoire ~ especially for a smaller space.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good investment, August 21, 2004

I did manage to put this together myself (and this was before I started lifting weights!) - but I scratched up the finish a bit in the process, and I was definitely sore the next day. I wouldn't reccommend doing what I did - don't be a hero, get someone to help you. I love this piece. It is a little bit shorter than I was expecting, but if you think about it, you don't want it to be too high because then you wouldn't be able to reach the top shelves when you're sitting at it. It matches the Dolce collection perfectly. The finish is exactly the same, and the hardware is similar enough that you wouldn't notice the difference. The only problem I had with it was that the screw holes for attaching the paper holder (lower left-hand door) were stripped, and it wobbled around a bit. Some wood glue fixed it right up. I haven't had any other problems.

The whole reason I bought it was to be able to 'close up' the office when we're done with the computer. Since our 'office' is in the bedroom, it's nice not staring at a computer screen and messy desk every day. It's more comfortable for my wife than I (but then, few pieces of furniture fit my 6'5" frame). Granted, it's smaller than our previous desk so we can't pile as much stuff on it...but that's not a bad thing when you think about it. The only real downside is we won't be able to put a larger monitor in than what we have right now (a 20" iMac), unless we remove the shelving right above. In all, a solid piece of furniture that looks nice, was fairly easy to put together, and makes our bedroom much tidier. Oh, a minor construction note: consider attaching the letter holder to the door before attaching the door - and use wood glue in addition to the screws, because the screws were not sufficient to hold the weight of the letter holder. It fell off with just slight pressure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for our needs!, June 4, 2009

We use this for our computer/catch all storage in our living room. We have received several compliments on it and it serves its purpose well in our house.

-The door storage fell off shortly after being installed. I have not tried to reattach it. I don't think the screws were long enough to support the weight that I had in them
-It was fairly easy to put together
-We have had no real problems with durability or funtion

Great buy for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Computer Armoire, August 22, 2005

Great piece of furniture. Recd with some damage caused in shipping - company quickly resent me new parts. Instructions were very clear and parts were clearly marked. You definitely need two people for the final installation step. I love it and it makes a great addition to my home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Piece, January 25, 2005

This is a great piece of furniture. It is nice enough to have in your living room, but functional enough for what you need.... The assembly instructions are VERY well written and every different part is properly labeled. All you need is a phillips screw driver to assemble the entire thing. One person can easily assemble it, but you'll need help at the end putting together the top and the bottom.

2.0 out of 5 stars Probabably about $100 over-priced, November 14, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I needed an office armoire now that I'm working from home and have a small place so this is the perfect size for my small abode. Based on the price, I wasn't expecting to be too impressed, but there are a few reasons why I think this should be about $100 less than the $510 price tag. First, a few of the pieces were damaged when my order arrived, but as anyone who shops online knows, returning large items is a giant pain in the a**. Thankfully, the damaged pieces aren't visible looking at it from the front(the back panel of the top piece) and the broken plank of wood that sections off the top shelf wasn't needed.

Secondly, there is about an 8 inch scratch running across the front of the desk panel just above the 2 doors that looks like someone ran a cotton ball with nail polish remover across it. I can deal with a few scratches here and there, but this one is pretty noticeable and feels very rough to the touch, but again, I'm not planning on trying to find a box that will fit this 40lb awkward piece of the desk, lug it to the post office, etc... I'll just live with it and get a new desk once I move to a bigger place. Third and lastly, the doors are misaligned and lopsided. It was easy enough to build both pieces by myself, but I did need help putting the hutch-like piece over the the desk piece. Also, the screw holes for the magnets are about 1/8" too far apart.

I'd give it a higher score if there weren't so many issues and was $100 less, but it does fulfill the 'function'. The 'form' could use some improvement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!!!, May 15, 2009

The piece is a little smaller than it appears, but it's perfect for us. I assembled it myself with help lifting the top part onto the bottom. It was easy to assemble and we are very happy with it!
