4.0 out of 5 stars An Awesome Writing Team!
I loved this new beginning of a fast-paced action adventure read. Great find.

My only nitpick is that sometimes too much detail is added on. Slows down the scene a bit.

But the writers obviously know their craft. And fantastic and fun scenarios in battling terrorists.

Get this one.

I was looking forward to this book since one of the co-authors was a former Navy Seal. However,in my view, the story got bogged down with endless detail on weapons and gear to be used on the mission. 4.0 out of 5 stars Undeclared Excitng reading!!, September 13, 2005
This review is from: The Home Team: Undeclared War (Mass Market Paperback)
Although I have never heard of these two writers, I could almost tell right away by the sound of the synopsis on the back cover that this was going to be good.

And I wasn't disappointed.

And if you like fast-paced action/adventure reading, along with rich details, then you will enjoy this also.

This would make for a great Hollywood film. But knowing them, they would most likely botch it up. Unless a great director was attached to it, like Tony Scott, Randall Wallace, or Steven Speilberg, just to name a few.

As to the book? The writers seem to know what they are talking about. One being an ex-Navy SEAL. Gritty and cool, The Home Team Undeclared War novel is chock full of revenge driven men, getting together to help out a friend, who's family has been taken hostage by a band of terrorists.

Even though I do like detail, sometimes this came across a bit too much, slowing down the pace. But if you are looking for an above average military type revenge story, then this one is for you.

I look forward to reading the next in the series - Hostile Borders. As well as the other books written by these solid seeming authors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced action, November 1, 2005

Chief Chalker is one of the few who can say he's actually been there/done that when it comes to Special Operations. As is common these days Chalker follows up his autobiographies with a fictional series about Navy SEAL Chief Reaper. While the overall plot of Undeclared War isn't amazing (the only reason I couldn't award 5 stars) the fast paced action, stunning realism, and interesting characters makes this a hit. The second book in the series, Hostile Borders, is also highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great series!, January 29, 2012

I really enjoyed this series and was disappointed to find that there's not a 4th books. Write faster!

There was great action and I liked how each mission took place in a different location, it really gives you the full scope of the terrorist threat. It's rather scary to know how easy it is for terrorists to get into this country and utterly amazing that we haven't had another attack.

Since these books are a few years old, some of the technology reads as a bit dated - cell phones and Internet capabilities specifically, but that doesn't detract from the timeliness of the issues.

There is an ungodly amount of detail about weapons, ammunition, boats, trucks, and other vehicles. It did get a bit tiring in spots, but also gave the stories authenticity and helped the reader visualize what it takes to load up with all of that equipment. It's just these details that had me recommend these books to my son and brother, they'll LOVE them!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Team, October 7, 2007
This review is from: The Home Team: Undeclared War (Mass Market Paperback)
This book details the characters and gear inside on a level I did not expect to find entertaining, I was wrong. This book reads like a movie or tv pilot that explodes in your hands. It does more than hit you over the head with action, it talks straight to you on a level you will understand and enjoy. These books have continued to satisfy while keeping my hunger alive for the next story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Score one for the Home Team, July 3, 2007
This review is from: The Home Team: Undeclared War (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoy Mr. Chalker's stories. His characters kind of seem real and their sense of humor in the face of danger makes for fun reading. I can lose myself in his books and just enjoy the story. I really do enjoy this character and storyline.

4.0 out of 5 stars Page-turning fiction that could be a prophesy, May 3, 2005
This review is from: The Home Team: Undeclared War (Mass Market Paperback)
The story weaves a frightening scenario of real world facts and an outstanding knowledge of weapons with a not-improbable terrorist plot.

It is obvious that the authors have a solid foundation of fact under their fictional story.

I was looking forward to this book since one of the co-authors was a former Navy Seal. However,in my view, the story got bogged down with endless detail on weapons and gear to be used on the mission. I read this for thrills and realistic excitement. Not to be an ordnance planner and supplier. The basic plot was fine. U.S. Navy Seal Chief Ted Reaper had been cashiered from the Seals for disobeying orders and hitting a superior officer while in Bosnia. Even though that officer turned out to be a rogue CIA turncoat who had thrown in with the enemy. Fast forward and that former officer had joined forces with Muslim terrorists in Michigan who have some very evil plans to poison Lake Michigan and the Chicago water supply. In the meantime, Reaper is working at a very high tech gunshop. The terrorists, who also deal in drugs, kidnap Reaper's wife and son hoping to coerce him into providing them with sophisticated weaponry. Reaper organizes a raid on their base which is on an island in Lake Michigan. Plenty of thrills. But, all in all, a slower read than it could have been. Could have benefited from tighter editing.
