My favorite DM single.,
By Marco D Bruno (Willoughby Hills, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Home / Useless (Audio CD)
The mixes on this cd are fantastic, not your usual mixes that are just fast beats with vocal clips (like Tori Amos' remix albums), these are great songs in and of themselves - it's almost a stand-alone album. I've certainly listened to it more that any other single I've ever had. Every DM fan should have this.

QuickTime Videos!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Home / Useless (Audio CD)
I bought this CD just for the promise of videos! You get 4 QuickTime movies of their videos: "Barrel of a Gun", "Home", "It's No Good", and "Useless". Each one is about 40 MB. Fair resolution and sound quality. The audio tracks on the CD of Home and Useless are average, nothing outstanding to write "home" about (ha ha). I good value for the fan if you're looking for something different.

What can I say, this single feature one of the best songs of all the time, Home and another excellent song, Useless, and furthermore, these singles come from one of the best albums of all the time: ULTRA, by Depeche Mode. You've got to get it!

"Home" is a unique song, I like the album version best. The other mixes are not bad. "Useless" is cool and the first remix is phat. It's also a CD-ROM that has 4 great videos. DM got it goin' on...

A new appreciation for Ultra,
By Chris Kotchey (Binghamton, NY) - See all my reviews

When I first bought Ultra, I was really thrown off by the first track - Barrel of a Gun. I hated it so much, that I really never listened to the album much. This CD gave me a whole new appreciation for the Album, and is worth it if nothing else for the QuickTime videos that are contained on the disc. I always enjoy a song so much more when I have a mental image to go with it, and the videos for Home and Useless are just fantastic. I even outgrew my distaste for Barrel of a Gun, and learned to thoroughly enjoy the Ultra album, even if some of the remixes on this album aren't so great. If only their re-mix CD's could be as good as the first ones they ever put out - Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence. Too many of them turn out to be horrid attempts to turn the songs into thumpy dance tunes.

video and sound!!!,

A very worthwhile purchase because in addition to the mixes of this nice Depechey bit of melodrama called "Home", you also get PC/Mac videos of "It's No Good", "Useless" and "Home" (the "Home" video is superb). "Home" may be the strongest track of the CD "Useless". Vocals are by Martin Gore, whose vocal style is a little more delicate than David Gahan's baratone bellow. The LFO Meant To Be mix uses an undertoe of nice mellow analog synths while the rhythm and Gore's vocals seem to trickle in. The Grantby Mix is very mellow as well with a little baggier percussion, a nice loop is incorporated. Also included is the LP version and four very cool mixes of the track "Useless."

this single its one of the best from the ultra album. All the remixes are really good. they are fast with a really good beat, just the way i like it. Specialy the useless remixes I also recommend to get the useless part 1&2 singles. They are one of the few bands from the 80's to be going on strong in the 90's and now. get this single you won't regret it.
