Book Description

June 1, 1999
The place is Manhattan. The time is midnight. And beneath the glittering diamond lights passion sizzles... and danger smolders.

He Chases Killers...

Lucas Hunter has stalked murderers all over the world with his sixth sense for evil. Now his quarry is the cunning madman known as "Lady Killer", the monster whose victims are always glamorous, beautiful women who were at one time intimately close to Lucas Hunter.

She Chases Dreams...

Galen Chandler's career is on the edge -- again. Indeed, the soon-to-be ex-anchorwoman is on the verge of leaving Manhattan when the madman calls her -- to use her to lure Lucas Hunter out to play.

Two Strangers in the City

Theirs is an unlikely alliance, the glacial-eyed hunter and the woman on the run. Theirs is an even unlikelier love. But with this killer on the loose, they are locked in a perilous game of life and death, where ice can turn to fire...

Amazon.com Review

Setting: New York City, present day
Sensuality rating: 4

Bestselling romance author Katherine Stone entertains readers with her latest contemporary, Home at Last. KCOR's new anchorwoman, Galen Chandler, is, to put it kindly, a disaster. She has none of the sophistication, education, or presence of New York's beloved Marianne McLain, KCOR's long-time anchor who has recently died of cancer. But mysteriously, Galen has been offered the job of a lifetime and is trying hard to make a go of it. When she lands an exclusive interview with reclusive Lieutenant Lucas Hunter, New York's best police negotiator, during a touchy hostage situation at a local hospital, Galen cannot bring herself to report the scoop that would cement her career but endanger the life of one of the young hostages. Lucas, drawn to the young reporter in spite of his conviction to remain impartial, finds himself in the position of protecting Galen when the serial killer preying on the women of Lucas's past draws her into the twisted plot. Close quarters and an inexplicable mutual attraction work their magic on Lucas and Galen, binding them together forever. While a few improbable plot points may occasionally distract the reader, the compelling characters and lovely romantic relationship that develops between them make for an enjoyable read. --Alison Trinkle

More About the Author

Bestselling Seattle-born author Katherine Stone set about plotting her life's journey at a very young age. At age five she knew she hoped to become a doctor. Then, after writing her first short story at age 11, she realized that she'd love to be a writer, too.

In pursuit of that youthful dream, Katherine attended Stanford University, where she completed her premed requirements while majoring in English. She received her M.D. from the University of Washington. Following her internal medicine residency in San Francisco, she accepted a fellowship in infectious diseases in Los Angeles.

What remains one of the world's largest outbreaks of Legionnaires' disease coincided with her fellowship, which gave her the opportunity to write and lecture on this mysterious new disease. But it was not all work and no play. There was also romance in L.A. It was there (during a spinal tap!) that she met her future husband, physician and novelist Jack Chase.

While she had accomplished the first half of her young-life goals, Katherine never really got around to the second part--being a writer--until Jack bought her a word processor and urged her to "Just do it." The result? Bestselling books in the distinctive Katherine Stone style: a marriage of lyrical prose, evocative emotion and, above all, romance.

"There's nothing wrong with incurable romanticism," the physician asserts. "I love writing about nice people, who are giving life their best shot despite the sometimes monumental obstacles I place in their paths and who discover, despite those obstacles, the splendor and power of love."

Although Katherine has hung up her stethoscope for the moment and is writing full-time at her home near Seattle, her medical background is often evident in her books. "I very much enjoy sharing my passion for medicine--its drama, its emotion and yes, its science--with my readers."

The author of 21 novels, including Twins, Bel Air, Love Songs, and Pearl Moon, Katherine's books have been translated into 20 languages and sold worldwide. She is in the midst of converting all her novels into e-book formats (and thinking about her next book!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the usual Katherine Stone, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Home at Last (Mass Market Paperback)
I too was disappointed and I kept checking everywhere in the book to see if this was possibly a reprint from early in her career. I love her books, but this one was confusing. Was Galen as beautiful as Lucas thought, from the description she was a total mess! What was all of this flowing hair, and turguoise coat descriptions. Sorry Katherine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Katherine Stone Love Story!, September 3, 1999

I loved HOME AT LAST. Even the title was perfect. In finding each other, in finding love, Lucas and Galen were finally Home.

I'm really looking forward to A Midnight Clear.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a truly boring, completely unbelievable story!, July 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Home at Last (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first Katherine Stone book and probably my last. Portraits of characters were pathetically overly dramatic. I was unable to follow any conversations since they were interrupted by long flashbacks of past events and mystic overtones that just didn't make sense. I must admit that I skimmed over the last half, trying to find something redeeming about the book rather than just put it down. I should have given up after the first twenty pages of awful writing style and, of course, saved my money in the first place!
