What a set of pipes! This man is a pure and commanding vocalist, and writes solid songs to boot! The album is well produced and thought out. Satisfying to both bluegrass and c/w listeners. Personal faves - "Rubber Dolly", and "I Know How It Feels". Also the harmony sequence ending "Fit for a King" is kickin"! Overall good listenin'...

The man did a nice job on Bluegrass. No, he is not Bill Monroe nor even a Jimmy Martin, however he has had his teeth in Bluegrass in the beginning, is a musician, knows note and tabulation. Artists who have "Jumped" on the Bluegrass train to either have something to do or can't compete in Country music are; Dolly Pardon, Merle Haggard, Dierks Bentley to say a few. A person can not put Joe in that category, for all it takes is to listen.
I approve of where he has come back to.

Joe Diffie
"Homecoming: The Bluegrass Album" (Rounder, 2010) ---------------------------------------------- I've always had a soft spot for good ol' Joe Diffie... Of the more modern bubbadelic novelty singers who came in the wake of Moe Bandy, Diffie always sounded a notch or two above everybody else. In his 1990s heyday, he clearly knew his honkytonk history, but modernized the music without sacrificing its soul. Still, who knew he'd also have such an affinity for bluegrass and backwoods twang? This is a sweet, solid acoustic album from a former Nashville Top 40 star who's clearly making the most of his newfound indie career. It's stands up well to repeat listening and sure has me curious about where Diffie will go from here. Definitely worth checking out. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Country Music)

For fans of Bluegrass music or of Joe Diffie, this is your CD!
Although Joe's years as a resident of the Country Music charts and radio airwaves are sadly over, this CD offers Mr. Diffie in a new arena.... the world of Bluegrass. There is a good variety of material on this CD, including the classic Stanley Brothers song "Somewhere Tonight," as well as some new compositions that go over very well. Mr. Diffie has a great voice for Bluegrass... In fact, he started his career there before moving up the Country charts.

This is a first rate CD. Joe Diffie at his best. I bought this CD because I heard the song Route 5 Box 109 on the radio. I love that song. I hate to admit it, but it had me teared up and homesick.
One of the real treats is Tall Corn Stalk. He tells of life as a corn stalk. Hoping the mule watches where he walks because life is short for a tall corn stalk. There are 2 really funny lines. "I shake and shudder when I think of salt and butter." And "We thank God for one big favor, that farmer started buying toilet paper." Great CD!!

IBMA award winners with Joe Diffie,

Take International Bluegrass Music Association Award winners and then add Joe Diffie... how could you lose? Well I was wondering about how this CD would add up when I first saw it. I did not know who was on it nor really much about its content but heard an advance cut on an alternative / Americana FM station. Sounded good and the comments by the DJ were interesting. So I purchase this CD from Amazon.
When I got the CD open and before even putting it on... read who was on the various cuts. WOW is was a who who of Bluegrass with many major IBMA award winners playing and providing backup vocals. Had to put in on. WOW it was Bluegrass. And WOW Joe Diffie's voice fit right in with all of the other voices. Highly recommended. And in the top 10 Bluegrass CDs of 2010. And maybe in that Top List for 2010, which is saying some thing because 2010 had many gems.

Harmony that wows,

Here's some great singing and the harmony is really tight. The songs have a fresh perspective on everything from like to being a corn stalk. Musically it's good but I did hear a few mistakes. With today's technology why would you leave those in. Most people will never hear them but being a professional player I didn't. Bryan Sutton's guitar playing is exceptional as usual. Joe Diffie could sing the phonebook and sound good doing it. I new he could sing country but he's a heck of a bluegrass singer too.

Sorry, not buying it , literally or figurally, Joe Diffie is not a bluegrass artist, anyone can do this, get the most popular songs of the genre, another Dierks Bentley, He ain't fooling me, "Down On ThE Ridge". Then get the best players you can afford.
