The Guy That Says Goodbye To You Is Out Of His Mind

Biography

A note from Griffin House on The Learner…

I read somewhere that the word disciple can be translated “learner” in Hebrew. I’ve always wanted to learn and remain teachable, even if I have to learn the hard way. Sometimes the hard way is the best way. It takes some people a long time before they learn their lesson, and I am one of those people.

I first heard of Griffin House while working in a music shop about 4 years ago when his cd "Lost and Found" was released. I played it inthe store a few times and we enjoyed it. Due to the fact that i have worked in a music store my attention span for new music is that of it came/it played/its on the shelf per an average of 2 rotations. This cd however has been a constant force in my cd player, ipod and itunes collection and continues to find songs that will play all day in my head. On the tracks "Burning up the Night," "Live To Be Free," and "'Cause I Miss You" you'll notice Griffin channeling the spirit of past Springsteen and Petty albums and still you'll be amazed by the spirit this album creates on the tracks "The Guy That Says Goodbye To You" and "Czech Republic."

Griffin House puts forth another outstanding piece of art for listeners to take in and experience. It is music I can picture being played live and enjoying. In a music world of over produced singers, this muscian provides us all with a really compelling art piece to enjoy. Stellar lyrics and music combine on "Homecoming."

Homecoming is difficult to categorize; "alternative rock" always feels like a cop-out, and the album has definite country influences but they're less prevalent than in Lost & Found. As in Lost & Found, Griffin's songs come across as very honest and give a clear impression that the music is in service of the words - as opposed to lyrics being thrown together in time with a guitar line.

If you enjoy folksy alternative rock, Homecoming is worth a listen and a half. If you've liked any of Griffin House's singles, whether from this album, Flying Upside Down, or his yet-to-be-released work, I'd strongly recommend downloading this full MP3 album (or buying a disc, if the studio ever prints another batch)!
