Book Description

April 1, 1996

Kasey Michaels has enchanted millions with her exquisite Regency romances. Now she embarks on a bold new journey, exploring the wilds of colonial America while weaving an unforgettable romantic adventure....

Miss Bryna Cassidy's journey to the New World holds anything but promise. Orphaned during the ocean crossing, Bryna is forced to travel alone through unsettled lands to reach her uncle's homestead in New Eden, Pennsylvania. She arrives to discover her relatives have been slain in an Indian uprising, and the only man civilized enough to offer help is the very land baron who seized her uncle's farm before the embers of the massacre's fires had died....

Dominick Crown has carved a palatial estate out of this savage land; he is ready to spawn his American dynasty. But for this he must wed, a difficult task for an English gentleman who avoids all contact with high society, fearing someone will recognize his handsome face and, worse, reveal his haunting past. The well-bred Bryna seems the perfect answer -- until he discovers her temper is as fiery as her radiant hair, and she brazenly uses him to achieve her ends. As war with the natives looms dangerously close, Bryna and Dominick are swept into a whirlwind of adventure -- and an ever-intensifying passion they never dreamed possible.

From Publishers Weekly

Picture an Irish character doll come to life?long red hair, fiery temper, big heart, tiny waist?and you have predictably feisty Bryna Cassidy. En route to join relatives in the colonies in 1763, Bryna is suddenly orphaned when a villain throws her gambler father overboard. She travels to New Eden, Pennsylvania, only to discover that, except for her five-year-old cousin, all of her relatives have been slaughtered or kidnapped by Indians. In order to survive, penniless Bryna accepts the marriage proposal of rich landowner Dominick Crown, an exiled English lord who dresses in deerskin and refuses to powder his hair. She learns a lot about the persecution of the Lenni-Lenape tribe and meets the challenge of the New World while living in Dominick's cushy Old World mansion. Even with Michaels's attempts at historical and political correctness, this is flat, self-righteous stuff.

Review

Miss Bryna Cassidy is accustomed to having to survive by her wits, but fate has just dealt her the harshest hand yet. While traveling across the ocean to her uncle's homestead in New Eden, Pennsylvania, her father is tossed overboard in a freak accident leaving Bryna alone to face the savage new world. Upon her arrival, Bryna is horrified to discover that her uncle and his family have been brutally massacred in a hostile Indian attack. One young cousin has been taken hostage by the savages, while the youngest, a five year-old girl, is under the care of Lord Dominick Crown, the handsome Englishman that now owns her uncle's land. Dominick is immediately taken with Bryna's startling Irish beauty and forms a plan to make the fiery lass his bride. Having accumulated a wealth of land, he is now ready to wed and produce sons to carry on his legacy. With a plan of her own, Bryna accepts his offer and sets out to use his coffers to find her cousin and escape back to Ireland with both cousins tucked safely under her wing. Yet the more she learns of her husband's secret past, realizing the sort of man she's married, the more difficult it is to imagine leaving this man who has touched her heart. When stirrings of a war threaten to destroy their very existence, Bryna and Dominick are forced to acknowledge the passion that vibrates between them. Drawn into a whirlwind of danger, only Bryna's faith in Dominick's love gives her the strength to stay and fight for their future. You'll find yourself chuckling over Bryna's antics and throughout you'll be yearning for their happiness.Bryna Cassidy is a heroine worthy of the name; Dominick Crown, a hero worthy of her! The Homecoming is a delight - a real page turner! This first historical gem from one of regency romance's most gifted writers, leaves you eagerly anticipating the next sparkling stroke of her pen!Lori Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. 5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking , heartbreaking and wonderfully exciting!, June 11, 1999

This review is from: The Homecoming (Mass Market Paperback)
Beautifully written. Bryna Cassidy is a true Irish lass. And,Dominick Crown, her soon to be handfasted husband, is a man of character and honor. This book is wonderfully romantic, full or love and laughter. I particularly enjoyed the way the two characters fall in love, and develop a deep mutual respect for one another, and share their victories as well as their sorrows. If you are looking for sex, this is not the book for you, but if its romance you're looking for, you won't be able to put it down. It has true Irish flavor. Can't wait to read the second and third in the trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a dull moment..., September 21, 2006

This review is from: The Homecoming (Mass Market Paperback)
This story kept me clued to the pages with never a dull moment. The main characters were very likeable, especially the hero. What is nice about this story is you also got a nice bit of a history lesson (French & Indian War) without it being overwhelming. Many authors seem to have trouble meshing a romance with an active historical background. It was also interesting to me that she never mentioned the French & Indian War and just gave you the developments as experienced by these characters living in and around New Eden, PA, near today's Allentown. In other words, she didn't bite off more than the reader could or would want to chew. I am an avid history buff in general, but I wasn't reading this romance for a history lesson. Still, I enjoyed the viewpoint I got through the characters. It's so refreshing to suddenly be able to snap your mind into a famous historical period and get a real and personal understanding of what some of the individuals probably did think and feel. I should add that I am from Eastern Pennsylvania and grew up going into the woods at night with friends to hear the cries of a hidden baby in an old well on a homestead where a family had been massacred by Indians. My home area of Heidelberg Township in Eastern Berks County was even mentioned in the book. One of the forts built against Indian attack was located within a mile of my home. But it all seemed like distant events to us kids. This story brought it to life for me and also gave me a great romance to enjoy along with great secondary characters and stories that had me tearing up. This book was a solid 5-star! I look forward to reading the sequels, UNTAMED and then THE PROMISE.
