5.0 out of 5 stars The best yet from this fantastic guitarist, March 22, 2000

This review is from: Homecoming (Audio CD)
Ken Bonfield may be the best acoustic guitarist recording today in the genre of accessible melodic music. HOMECOMING is an artistic triumph of the highest degree. The music is warm, friendly, and highly evocative. Ken receives excellent suuport from accompanists, but his acoustic guitar is what anchors this album. Many of the songs are set at a relaxed pace, but this music is much more than a "relaxation" recording (not that there's anything wrong with that). The folk/pop sensibility at work makes the music so appealing that you're missing out if you don't actively listen to this the first time. Ken is a real pro at blending the instruments just right and getting the arrangements tight as a drum.

Playing HOMECOMING is like asking your best friend over on a cool summer night and sitting on the back porch with a glass of wine or a beer, alternately talking and watching in silence as the stars come out. It's an emotionally rewarding experience and one guaranteed to leave you feeling better than you did before. Whether he's playing a more laid back and serene tune or one with some get up and go (in his own rural/backroads style), you'll be glad you spent some time with Ken.

I play this CD often when I have friends over. It is unobtrusive enough to allow for conversation yet engaging also. The music never fails to elicit comments from my guests. It sometimes stops conversation - with remarks like "This is lovely - who is it?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Lovely, with Gentle Tension and Drive, June 14, 2007

Ken Bonfield's "Homecoming" is just a sweet and lovely CD. It doesn't suffer from the aimlessness or too too sweetness of some music of its type. The music here has tension and drive -- it has intelligence, it has direction, but it is also very warm and soothing.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite guitar instrumentals, with captivating songs, October 15, 1998

Ken Bonfield reaches a new level with this album. With the assitance of seasoned pros like Michael Mannring and Grant Geisman accompanying him, Bonfield provides instrumental music that is both relaxing, enchanting and at times haunting. If you love ambient music, this is a must have.
