I like the idea of combining fragrance with a candle effect.
Pros: can use any fragrance oil, low energy use, can leave unattended (out of the reach of children and pets)
Cons: fragrance warmer does not work with batteries alone - in order to have both the candle and the fragrance warmer work, you must plug it in. Does not throw the fragrance particularly well - could use a little fan or room for more oil, candle does not look as real as other flameless candles I've seen, the river rocks don't serve a function and look a bit odd to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, meditative and safe., March 8, 2009
This review is from: Homedics ARM-CAN1 AromaSpa Flameless Candle Aroma Oil Diffuser (Health and Beauty)
When I first heard of the flameless candles, I kept thinking, 'what a Godsend for a challenged, safety conscious household.' I have a very large, inquisitive dog, that does not need to be around real flames. Also, my hubby has asthma, so we use scented candles infrequently; mostly during entertaining. So I loved the idea that some of the flameless candles offer optional diffusers, just for those special occasions. Also, that there is NO smoke, which itself can disturb allergies, and there is increasing scientific evidence, that toxins emitted burning candles, can be a health hazard.

However, some of the first flameless candles that I saw, did not look very realistic, at all; the lights did not flicker. Thank goodness, they are making progress, so that we can now bring them home and display them proudly, while increasing our safety.

I purchased the AromaSpa Candle and couldn't be more pleased. I've had it for 3 months and I ritualistically turn it on almost every evening. I find it quite soothing and very realistic, with the flickering light. I have mine located where I am able to plug it in, unobtrusively. So, I generally leave it on until it turns itself off, in six hours. Since mine is plugged in, I have no problems using the diffuser, if I so desire, and it offers sufficient aroma to satisfy me, without overdoing it.

It just so happens, that I had a large, clear glass plate, that came with river rocks and three real candles. I had long ago used the candles but immediately thought that this candle would look great nestled in the plate of river rocks. I was right! It looks as though they came together and added to the elegance of the total picture. It is really attractive.

There are so many places where flameless candles can bring peace and tranquility, where real flames aren't permitted. For the hospitalized patient. Anyone home-bound, or disabled that might not want to deal with managing a real candle. For that forgetful senior citizen, or the teen, that you just don't trust with real candles in their room, just yet. A dull office, or a little cube space, could sure be brought to life and maybe offer a Zen moment here, and there.

Okay, enough said! You can see I'm turned on by this candle and the idea of flameless candles, in general. I think you just might be, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very pretty and useful for small rooms..., May 30, 2009
This review is from: Homedics ARM-CAN1 AromaSpa Flameless Candle Aroma Oil Diffuser (Health and Beauty)
I love this diffuser. I am an aromatherpist so I use essential oils in my diffuser instead of the fragrance oils it comes with. It is very pretty and does a wonderful job in a small room. It does not dispurse the scent very well for a larger room. I have only tried operating it with it plugged in, not with the batteries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Possible fire hazard?, November 20, 2009
This review is from: Homedics ARM-CAN1 AromaSpa Flameless Candle Aroma Oil Diffuser (Health and Beauty)
My wife received this as a gift. It's a bit mesmerizing watching the flicker. On three occasions we've put a small bit of oil in the aluminum cup and noticed a short while later that the cup was empty, yet oily on its underside. Some quick detective work determined that the stamping of "CAUTION HOT" in the aluminum had been too zealous and the letter "A" was actually perforating the metal. Oil can therefore leak out and contact the heating resistor directly. This resistor is over 200 degrees F and I would assume this is not a safe condition. I have contacted Homedics and left a message on their customer service line. For now, we'll use it as a candle. Perhaps I can find another tea light that will fit in the holder. Nice item, but may be a safety hazard.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor design, June 3, 2009
This review is from: Homedics ARM-CAN1 AromaSpa Flameless Candle Aroma Oil Diffuser (Health and Beauty)
I work in a natural medical clinic and we got the diffuser to put on the coffee table for our guests to experience a little soothing aromatherapy before their appointments. I was wondering why we couldn't smell the oils. After looking a little closer, we realized that it had to actually be plugged in for the warmer tray to work. We got this specifically so we could use it cordless on a table as a functional centerpiece. The candle is nice, but why design only one function for batteries and the other for cord? It doesn't make any sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars safe and long lasting, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Homedics ARM-CAN1 AromaSpa Flameless Candle Aroma Oil Diffuser (Health and Beauty)
I really like this product. I use it in my bedroom. You only need to put a little bit of oil in it and it lasts a long time. I just put enough to coat the bottom of the oil cup and it lasts over a week if I don't change the scent. With a oil burner with a flame candle I don't get the same results. I think its pretty and goes with many decors. I don't think the rocks block the scent from coming out. There is no real flame so its safer to use around my cats, who were curious at first but now they don't bother it. There is also an auto shut off feature that turns the unit off after 6 hours. The only con is that it has to be plugged in for the scent. You can use the candle part on just batteries. I like the idea of using different rocks or marbles to change the look. I might try that.

1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed, August 15, 2010

Received the set with one bottle of aromatherapy leaking in the package. Set the unit up and plugged it in. The heat is so low the oil doesn't even evaporate. There's a warning that the unit becomes hot, but not in my case. Will toss it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars great product, November 11, 2009
This review is from: Homedics ARM-CAN1 AromaSpa Flameless Candle Aroma Oil Diffuser (Health and Beauty)
I purchased this item after seeing it at a friends home. I loved the way it looked and the scent diffused in the room nicely. I purchased my own and just love it. For the scent to be most effective, use 100% pure essential oils and put a few drops of oil on the rocks and over the plastic cover above the oil well. The scent lasts and lasts. 5-6 drops of oil lasts at least 18 hrs. More cost effective than candles and way prettier. Peppermint oil is best, the scent is strong enough to diffuse nicely and its very uplifting. Enjoy

3.0 out of 5 stars Attractive, but not an effective diffuser, October 25, 2009
This review is from: Homedics ARM-CAN1 AromaSpa Flameless Candle Aroma Oil Diffuser (Health and Beauty)

I bought this item because I like to use essential oils for aromatheraphy; also, I was drawn by the safety of the flameless candle. Most of us have such busy schedules that it's impractical to have to monitor a burning candle -- and who isn't liable to forget the candle when dashing out the door? That being said, I found this product acceptible. I like the addition of the river stones; they give the appliance natural texture, beauty, and provide a grounding aspect. What I am disappointed with is the "gentle" diffusion of the oils. Even in the small space of my bathroom, the fragrance is simply not well diffused. I have tried adding more oil to the little diffusing tray, but I suspect there isn't enough warmth generated by the electric "candle" to diffuse the scent. The product is attractive; it's safe, it's inexpensive, but if you want real diffusion of essential oils, buy a nebulizing mister.

2.0 out of 5 stars Attractive but doesn't diffuse much aroma, December 14, 2008

I thought this unit would be attractive and also provide the aroma I prefer. It's OK for looks, although the flickering light (fake candle flame) bugs me, particularly when I tried it in my bedroom; I can even see that flickering light-candle through my closed eyelids. I don't smell much aroma, even when right next to the unit. I have to agree with the previous reviewer in that the river rock is an odd addition to this unit. Besides, I think the rock could easily block the opening for the aromatic fumes, preventing these fumes from dispersing into the room properly. The battery function is a total waste, too. Why would you want to only have the flickering light running, without the aroma feature?

I thought Homedics would be a good choice since I have other Homedics products that are excellent. Guess you can't always end up with a winner!

In conclusion, I am very disappointed in this candle-diffuser product.
