I am very happy that I ignored the bad review (mostly because it belonged to a different product and apparently they are not as identical as the reviewer imagined :)) I don't see any problems with the materials, used the massager 3 times last night with very pleasant results.
The shiatsu thing does a pretty good job on my neck (so it can move again), the heat is strong enough and vibration puts me to sleep. What else do you expect from a $30 gadget? I am buying one for my uncle Leonid.

P.S. Try it upside down - you might like it.

I purchased this product despite the only other review here (by M. Kaplan) and I am SO GLAD I did. I tried the demo unit in "Bed Bath and Beyond", bought it (on sale for $14.99) and in three words...I love it! I have a pinched nerve in my neck and I can't begin to tell you what a relief it was to find this product. I have several other HoMedic products and this lives up to the same quality I've come to expect from this company.

Unlike the other negative review, I have experienced no redness on my neck after using it for up to 30 minutes at a time. A Shiatsu massage should be tempered by the amount of pressure applied to the unit, and I suspect that if too much pressure is applied, this might be the problem with the other reviewer. But for me, it seems just right.

The amount of heat generated by the NMS-350 seems just right. If it were less, it wouldn't be sufficient (for me) and it certainly doesn't seem like too much heat. This is another reason I think the other reviewer had a defective unit and might consider trying a different one.

Overall, I'm very happy with this neck massager and would highly recommend it.

I get extremely tight knots in the back of my neck which make my neck painful to move. I've only had this thing for a couple of days and I feel better already. I often use it while watching TV or reading. BTW, anyone who complains about the fact that this massager is "too rough" doesn't understand the principals behind Shiatsu massage. I used to live in Japan and went for Shiatsu all the time. It is supposed to be a tad bit uncomfortable. It is working the knots out! I've been pulling this massager into my neck as much as I can handle. I hope that it lasts for a long time.

I shopped extensively for a neck / shoulder massager, read many reviews, most good some not good at all on many different products. I own a homedics full-back shiatsu massager and it is VERY AGGRESSIVE, the same as this model 350. I chose this unit based on Homedics reputation and my personal experience and for the Inexpensive cost...I am very pleased. It does exactly what they said and with HEAT is beyond what I expected. I give it 5 *****'s.

I am a Martial Arts Instructor by trade, and as such I get a lot of sore muscles, and big knots from time to time. Traditionally I like to use self-pressure massage, caning the area with a split piece of bamboo, or using wooden knob rollers to work out kinks in my body, but I've had this knot in my right shoulder for 6 months and it just won't go away.

I tried acupuncture twice, massage, moxibustion treatment, tiger balm... the whole 9 yards, and of all the methods I'd tried, only acupuncture seemed to help for more than a few days. So, I picked up one of these massagers to give it a try. I've got several homedics products, and I can't complain about a single one of them, so I thought I'd take the chance.

I'm glad I did. I used this on my neck for a while, before turning it so the U shape fit over my shoulder on the right side of my body. It worked at just the right spot in my shoulder to get the knot out in just one sitting. It's been 2 weeks now, and I've got no issues with neck mobility or tightness like I had.

I give this a 5 star, as it far surpassed my expectations. I'm still using it every few days because it provides a warm, relaxing massage that's gentle enough to help relax, but tough enough to work out the serious knots in your body. I'd definitely buy one again, and have been recommending it to my students.

I've had this thing for two days now and I'm thinking of returning it. It's not horrible but it isn't doing the job for me. First off, it's bigger and heavier than I anticipated. The thing I like the least about it is that you have to manipulate its positioning using the handles to get the right spot and the right amount of pressure. Well, when my neck hurts, chances are the muscles in my shoulders are also suffering. Sitting holding and moving the thing does not exactly relax those muscles which are usually correlated to the stiffness in my neck. I had no luck positioning it against anything to eliminate that. Again, it's not a POS, but it's not worth keeping for me, either.

For thirty dollars this is an excellent neck massager, and definitely worth every penny! Using this neck massager for 15-20 minutes tremendously helps loosen tight neck muscles. I sit at a computer all day at work and get frequent tension headaches, at the end of a long day spending 15-20 minutes with this neck massager brings great relief. I use it in massage / vibrate mode with heat. The shiatsu massagers are very soothing and I can feel them working out the knots in my neck. The massager does provide a good amount of heat, I usually turn off the heat after 15 minutes so I don't burn my skin because I like to lean back into the massager so I get deep massaging pressure from the shiatsu massagers, which probably isn't recommended because you can burn out the motor, but it feels so good. This product works so well it almost puts me to sleep. Definitely money well spent!

This product seems to have been made for people with wide necks because the balls aren't very snug against mine. However, I can still position it to get a fairly decent massage, so it was worth the money I spent on it.

I was experiencing some real neck discomfort and tension that had become fairly intolerable.
I scanned all the neck massage products online and bought this one.

While not awful, I had some specific issues with it.

1) Its heavy and bulky. It did not want to stay put around my neck when I was sitting up and would slide off my neck and down my back. It does have hand holds on each side, so i guess you could hang on to it to keep it around your neck, but what's the point of that?

2) The only way to feel any real kneading sensation is if you do as mentioned above, and hold on to each side at the hand holds, and then pull down on it so it's very snug against your neck. I found this impossible to do for long. I wanted to relax, not work to relax.

3) The heat is pretty effective and I did like that about it. It almost got too hot afer a while.

4) It's not that quiet. I didn't expect it to be, but after getting it and then trying to listen to tv or the radio, it did tend to drown out the normal level I usually have my tv on.

It just did not provide what I was looking for. I'm sending it back.

I bought this product for my husband for his birthday after researching other similar products and reading the customer reviews. We both tried it out and we were very disappointed in the product performance. The product fell way short of our expectations. It didn't provide a hard enough massage and was only able to massage a small area of the neck. Even sitting back in a chair and pressing harder against the massager didn't provide enough massage and did very little to relieve any muscle stress or tension. I mailed back the massager the very next day. I would not recommend this product if you are looking to get a good massage. I guess you get what you pay for!
