Product Description

Rapid Relief Electronic Pain Relief pads stop the pain, not your life. Drug-free and chemical-free, it’s the strongest pain relief for your back available without a prescription. The difference is TENS-Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation-the same treatment pain specialists and physical therapists use in their clinics. The discreet, odor-free, non-toxic device is designed for home or work. Just attach it under your clothing to the site of the pain, choose one of 15 intensity levels, and allow the targeted impulses to block nerve pathways from transmitting pain signals to the body’s pain center. It’s maximum strength at a maximum value.

This is the best portable TENS unit ever. I usually have to try to walk around with my regular TENS on and it leaves wires hanging, a big heavy box I have to clip to my pants, and it gets turned off accidentally all the time. Plus the pads fall off a lot. Going to the bathroom is always risky.

These Homedics Rapid Relief TENS units are awesome! They are cordless, stick well, they have varied patterns of the pulses (modulation) and run for 20 minutes then turn themselves off. The have a lithium battery and a light weight carrying case that has a slick back for the pads to stick to. You can buy replacement pads for them too. Best of all, they are so low profile nobody can tell you're wearing them. They fit anywhere too. The two varieties are actually the same and work equally as well on your back as they do on a knee or arm or anywhere you need it.

Way more than enough power for my bicep tendonitis, and I'm around 30 cycles still on the first battery, a 2032 disk. Feels great and I'm recovering nicely. Contrary to another reviewer, the control couldn't be simpler: feel for the + mark thru your clothing, hold for 4 seconds, then click 6 times for power 6 for instance.

My "trick" is how to keep it firmly in place for days, through sweaty exercise and whatever. If it detaches from the skin, it will turn off, so this is a key point. Their stickum is quickly defeated by your skin oils, so I peeled that off and trimmed the flaps a bit. I cut two 9" strips of Kinesio Tex Gold tape. Kinesio Tex is a therapeutic device in itself, BTW. Cut a notch in the center of each strip for the tens unit, position and spread the tape. It will stay put through thick and thin. If you haven't used that tape, it has amazing soft stretchiness and terrific stick, yet peels off gently.

There is one real plus to this little pain relief pad...the pulses felt wonderful. I've used a few TENS type machines, and this worked as well as the best...for one time. The first issue I had with this pad was a small one. The instructions told how to remove the cover. Well, I looked at it, and didnt' see the cover, just a hole. The cover was actually in a little baggy with the battery. Once I figured that out, it was easy to insert the battery and close the cover. Next, I put on the gummy pads, and placed it on my back. It felt great as I was having back spasms and needed relief. The problem was, it fell off in the morning and would not stick after that. The pad had already lost it's stickiness and twisted and when i tried to place it back on, I was getting shocks where the pad has rolled off the base. I tried to push it back, but it was falling apart. So the bottom line is that unless they come up with a better adhesive pad for this, it's basically useless. Other TENS machines have reusable pads that last for many uses, I'm not sure why this one is so poorly made.
UPDATE: Homedics was kind enough to replace my original pad, which I felt was defective. The second pad was quite a bit better. The adhesive pad attached and stayed attached this time, for several uses, and I do love the way this helps my back pain. I originally gave it one star, and the added stars are for these reasons. However, Im still not a fan of the adhesive pad. It is starting to roll a bit, and if I'm not careful, I get zapped by the electric stimulation without the needed padding, and it stings! I'm still hoping they decide to produce this with a few pads, so you can replace them easily if they roll or wear out, because the price is high for the amount of uses you can get from it.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I had my doubts about TENS, and I have read the research literature on this technology: they say placebos work just as well as TENS. In my one-man test, however, the Homedics Rapid Relief Pad is absolutely, unquestionably, stunningly effective at relieving low back pain. I have scar tissue in my lower back muscles and likely will have pain the rest of my life. Physical therapy helps, ibuprophen helps, and a hot jacuzzi can help, but nothing will ever cure it. So to test my first-ever TENS unit, I spent all day doing things that always leave my back barking (yardwork, heavy lifting, lots of bending). That will ALWAYS leave me aching for the next day or two. After I finished and showered, I used the TENS on the spot where the pain is worst. On the lowest setting, I could barely feel the vibrations, so I amped it up to a little more than halfway of full strength and let it do its thing for 20 minutes, expecting nothing. After just a few minutes, the pain had diminished by 50%, and at the end of the 20 minutes, I was pain-free and relaxed. I remained pain free for hours, and the next morning, my back did not feel ANY of the usual effects of the hard yardwork I'd done.

The sensation of the Homedics TENS is very pleasant, and perhaps the deep muscle relaxation it induces led to my unexpectedly great results. I used it again two days later when my back stiffened after a 4-hour drive. Instant relief.

Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars: The instructions have one glaring fault. They don't tell you that the "gel pads" are simply the little globs of glue-like material sandwiched between two thin plastic films.
