4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect
All in all okay, but weight varies each time you step on the scales in a "step on, step off" movement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate product lousy Homedics Support., October 9, 2008
This review is from: Homedics SC-535 LCD 350 lb/160 kg Capacity Bath Scale Measures Body Water and Muscle Mass (Health and Beauty)
This product has a nice user interface and seems well built. I bought it, however, after reading several other issues of inaccuracy from other buyers of this and other similar Homedics models. The scale seemed to give me good data for about two weeks.

The body fat reading was a little low, I thought, but it was consistent and useful as long as there was directional accuracy.

However, this morning my body fat suddenly doubled from 15.5% to 30.1%. When I called Homedics support my first contact was courteous and helpful, giving me a reset procedure that is not in the user manual.

When followed that procedure and it did not improve the readings, I called back and was connected with a very rude and perfunctory support contact who said my only options were to ship the scale back to them at my own expense and wait up to a month for a new scale or "deal with the retailer". I chose the latter even though I am concerned about returning since I no longer have the box.

1.0 out of 5 stars And Your Weight Is?, October 15, 2006
By
A Rock In My Shoe (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
I bought this scale today at Macy's Herald Square store after my Norelco digital scale of over 20 years finally died this weekend. I'll be returning the Homedics scale tomorrow. I get a different reading everytime I step on it. I've weighed 172 pounds (undressed) very consistently for the past five years. When I first stepped on this scale (fully dressed) it showed my weight as 176. Oh great, I thought! I've no doubt lost a couple of pounds. Then I picked up my 10-pound (adult) dog and discoverd that together we both weighed 190 pounds. So either my dog increased his weight by almost half since the last time I weighed him, or I gained 4 pounds in one minute. I then tested the scale on three different hard surfaces--wood floor, ceramic tile, and linoleum. I got different readings on each. I also got different readings on the same surface. The variations were about 5 pounds, on average. Clearly, I have no confidence in this scale.

1.0 out of 5 stars weight reading is random, May 10, 2008

The SC-535 model is very inaccurate (as a previous reviewer notes). I've used it first thing in the morning, as recommended, and got one weight - then after doing some morning ablutions, I expect to weigh about a pound less. Instead, this scale shows me weighing 4lbs (2%) more!! I would return this piece of digital uselessness, but I've lost the packaging.

3.0 out of 5 stars Consistent, good feedback on Body Fat, Looks nice, December 19, 2008
As long as you don't move the scale, the readings are consistent. I also like another reviewer noticed that I weigh exactly 4 pounds more on this scale than I do on the cheapo $7 analog Taylor scale I bought before this fancy one. That said, if you are looking to compare yourself over time, then it's useful and consistent. The body fat readings are also very useful. I used this daily for several weeks during a diet and fitness program and noticed no discrepancies or inconsistencies except the 4 pound difference versus the other scale. It looks nice and sleek on the bathroom floor also. ...update June 2011- the scale has continued to function well all this time (longer than any other scale I've had) however I noticed there is a discrepancy in the body fat percent versus the number generated by the fancy Tanita professional system at my doctor's office. This scale is consistent with itself, but I think it must use a different calculation to determine the body fat percentage. I switched over to a Tanita at home in order to get more accurate body fat reading at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely accurate, August 28, 2008

I have used this product for a couple of years now and have found it to be extremely consistent and accurate. A recent trip to my doctor for a check-up confirmed the accuracy of my weight fully clothed. Identical to the tenth of a pound. The body fat analyzer seems to be accurate as well, although I have not confirmed this with independant tests. The important thing is that my body fat registers appropriately higher or lower depending upon the consistency and intensity of my excercise schedule. I would highly recommend this scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised by the negative ratings.., January 23, 2012
This review is from: Homedics SC-535 LCD 350 lb/160 kg Capacity Bath Scale Measures Body Water and Muscle Mass (Health and Beauty)
My friend was looking for a new scale so I pulled up mine to show her. I was surprised by all the negative feedback. My scale has always been accurate from the pounds and the body fat percentage. I was weighed recently for a weight loss program and the difference was two pounds (body fat was almost identical). I assumed those two pounds came from my clothing because I usually weigh myself after a shower. It says on the instructions for your feet to be moist for the best reading. Are the other reviewers skipping this step?

I also keep my scale in the same place. This may have also affected the other users readings. I bought my scale on sale at Sears over two years ago and I have had no problems with it at all. I hope people don't pass up this scale on account of the negative comments. Try it for yourself!

I love this new scale; it tells you everything you need to know and seems to be very accurate. I still find myself referring back to the booklet to see where the average is and what all of the information means.

1.0 out of 5 stars worthless due to inaccuracy, May 29, 2011
This scale suffers from what seems to be a common scale flaw, which we realize now after shopping on amazon to replace this scale. We have had this scale for over 5 years and while we like all the data it provides our weight differs by up to 5 pounds each time you step on the scale. This has been such a frustration I can't believe we kept this scale this long... Over the years with this scale I have tried to figure out exactly where my toes should be lined up to get consistant measurements but to no avail. Finally to our relief we are replacing this scale. Hopefully our next scale will not have this inaccuracy flaw.

This review is from: Homedics SC-535 LCD 350 lb/160 kg Capacity Bath Scale Measures Body Water and Muscle Mass (Health and Beauty)
This scale was great until it stopped working. I've replaced the battery with several different brands and have no response. I've also emailed customer service twice and have had no response from them. I'll go to a different company for my next scale- and anything else I need!
