I'm not saying that this would not be good for some folk, but if you have a problem listening too closely to sounds, this machine will simply not do. It will not be long before you pick up on how short the actual sound clips are that you are listening to, and you will soon pick out when and how often they repeat. If you are actually trying to relax or sleep, this can get quite distracting. There are better machines with longer cycles -- look for those even if you have to pay more.

A Decent Machine, a Great Price!,

I have a lot of trouble sleeping, and do better when I have some sort of white noise going on in the background. This machine is incredibly inexpensive, and you don't have to go broke supplying batteries for it, because it comes with its own AC plug.Another great feature is the timer. You can set it for 15, 30 or 60 minutes. And of course, there is a volume control. I also like the design. It is compact, but stable, and not likely to get knocked over very easily. It could be placed on an unstable surface like the carpet, or, in my case, a pile of books on my nightstand. I don't like the heartbeat sound, but I've fallen asleep quite well to all of the other sounds. My favorite is the "Rain" sound - very consistent and soothing. My only complaint is the sound quality. I would rate it as average - I've heard better, and I've heard worse. The sounds are repetitive, with only about a minute long cycle. And my reason for not giving it five stars is that when you turn the sound up past a certain level (not even to the halfway point on the volume control), there is a feedback buzz. Lucky for me, there is room on my nightstand right next to my bed, so I can hear it on the lower levels. But for someone who has to place it on another spot in the room, it could be annoying.

I love this machine!!!,

I received this little jewel as a Christmas gift from a friend this year. The only sound that I do not like is the "heartbeat" and my favorite is the "rain".........makes me sleep like a baby. I like the fact that it has a timer that you can set for 15, 30 or 60 minutes. I highly recommend this machine!

Count me as another one of the many people whose Homedics Soud Spa quickly stopped working properly. Within a few days we started to hear annoying static. Within 2 weeks the device stopped working completely. Don't take a chance on this product.

Sound asleep!,
This review is from: Homedics SS-2000 SoundSpa Relaxation Machine (Health and Beauty)
I bought this sleep machine for my husband who is prone to migraines and has many sleep issues. This is one of the few sound machines that includes "white noise," which to some, is more soothing for sleep productivity. My husband sleeps very sound with this beauty and is worth it's weight in gold around our house! This is an easy to operate machine and a super bargain!

When my mother went into hospice I purchased your product. She had been homebound for many years and I did not want her to die without once again hearing beautiful outdoor sounds. The nurses and staff had never thought of using sound therapy. Mother died July 27, 2006 listening to the Night Sounds on your machine. The hospital staff talked about purchasing these machines for the patients. Thank you for making an excellent product it made my mother's last days peaceful.Yours, Janis Boersma

Nice sounds. although very limited. The sampling of sounds are very LOOPY, and you can often hear the clicks as the loop starts over. The OCEAN WAVES sound is awful, the waves are way too close together and sound more unnerving than relaxing! The WATERFALL sounds more like RAIN. The CRICKETS are a favorite.
