Book Description

February 9, 2004
Homefires is the untold story of those left behind. The public sees small stories of families, but it doesn't begin to reflect what we go through everyday. The love, fear, pride, worry and ever present loneliness. My goal in writing this book is to let other wives know they are not alone. To not think you are the only one having these thoughts, feelings or problems. From the general's wife to the private's wife we all worry about our husbands. We have kids who are adjusting to their parent being gone and we all get lonely. Cars break down and toilets overflow, whatever the problem we deal with it. This is not a book complaining about our lot in life. This is a book that shows what our life is like during a deployment, and how extraordinary these women are. I hope I reach one person that feels better for having read my book. This is our story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Representation!, February 10, 2005
This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
I have read a lot of things and seen a lot of interviews done with women who ONLY want to complain. This book is NOT that. It conveys the strength and weaknesses of the every day life of a Military spouse. My husband is part of the 101st and served in OIF I and is now back for OIF III. Probably not the best time for me to have read the book because I cried throughout the entire thing. It was very true to life and I found myself identifying with EVERY story/sentiment in some way. There were some things that were EXACTLY thoughts and conversations that friends and I have had. I plan to buy more copies of this book to send to people that just don't understand the pride and the trials a spouse goes through. Wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, July 12, 2005
This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
I cannot begin to express my gratitdue to Sherry for putting on paper the things we military wives feel. Simply reading the first few pages made me realize that I am not alone and that, in itself, was so comforting and reassuring. Finally, I can feel relief at the millions of emotions I have on an every day basis, knowing that there are thousands of other men and women in the same position, feeling the same way. Excellent book, honest stories, raw emotions-all true and to the core. Sherry, you have done an excellent job and from one military wife to another, thank you.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, January 23, 2011

This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
I just finished reading Homefires today and it was wonderful. Even though written back in 2004, it is relevant today. It is a simple read, but still manages to pack such a punch, moving you to tears and laughter. After reading it today, I don't feel so alone, Sherry Hines gets it and has been there. Whether Iraq or Afghanistan, yesterday, today, or tomorrow, this book will make sense to a spouse with their soldier deployed.
