5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Representation!
I have read a lot of things and seen a lot of interviews done with women who ONLY want to complain. This book is NOT that. It conveys the strength and weaknesses of the every day life of a Military spouse. My husband is part of the 101st and served in OIF I and is now back for OIF III. Probably not the best time for me to have read the book because I cried throughout...

1.0 out of 5 stars Tracy Dombrowski, military wife
This book was a great disappointment to me. Newly married and with a husband immediately deployed to Iraq, I was looking for books that expressed some of the feelings and experiences I was having to deal with daily. Unfortunately, for me, this book was overly sentimental with little of the real life thoughts and feelings of other military wives that I know and have...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Representation!, February 10, 2005
This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
I have read a lot of things and seen a lot of interviews done with women who ONLY want to complain. This book is NOT that. It conveys the strength and weaknesses of the every day life of a Military spouse. My husband is part of the 101st and served in OIF I and is now back for OIF III. Probably not the best time for me to have read the book because I cried throughout the entire thing. It was very true to life and I found myself identifying with EVERY story/sentiment in some way. There were some things that were EXACTLY thoughts and conversations that friends and I have had. I plan to buy more copies of this book to send to people that just don't understand the pride and the trials a spouse goes through. Wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, July 12, 2005
This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
I cannot begin to express my gratitdue to Sherry for putting on paper the things we military wives feel. Simply reading the first few pages made me realize that I am not alone and that, in itself, was so comforting and reassuring. Finally, I can feel relief at the millions of emotions I have on an every day basis, knowing that there are thousands of other men and women in the same position, feeling the same way. Excellent book, honest stories, raw emotions-all true and to the core. Sherry, you have done an excellent job and from one military wife to another, thank you.....

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, January 23, 2011

I just finished reading Homefires today and it was wonderful. Even though written back in 2004, it is relevant today. It is a simple read, but still manages to pack such a punch, moving you to tears and laughter. After reading it today, I don't feel so alone, Sherry Hines gets it and has been there. Whether Iraq or Afghanistan, yesterday, today, or tomorrow, this book will make sense to a spouse with their soldier deployed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!!, August 27, 2007
This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
The book was great! I loved it from the first page to the last. It made me cry through out the whole book, most of the book made feel as they were writting about me personally. I finished the book the same day so the only thing is, I would have liked it to be alot longer. After reading it myself I let my sister read it, she's not a military wife but I wanted her to get an idea of what we go through, and she loved the book. She called me in tears and told me she was proud of me for being strong enough to get through a deployment, and now she see's the military and their wives in a whole different way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get the tissue, March 18, 2007

In this book the author gives a glimpse into her day to day life and what goes through her mind as she stays home raising her son while her husband is deployed. It details the emotions that most wives go through during the separation.I read this book while my husband was in basic training. I couldn't put it down. Even though I had not been through a deployment at the time I had read this it helped me later on when while he was. It's a real tear jerker though because so much of the emotions described in the book can only be imagined and understood by other military families. It helps to know you are not the only one feeling those emotions. I recommend this book to anybody that wants to better understand what a military wife goes through while her soldier is deployed and it is a must have for any military wife whether you face an upcoming deployment or you have already been there and done that!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great support for military wives and supporters, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
This book really helped me relate to someone else that knew what I was going through. Not only was there stories of experiences but there was poems which I read almost every night before bed just to keep my spirits up. I recommend this book to anyone searching for conformation on their own feelings on handling deployment and being a military wife.

This book was a great disappointment to me. Newly married and with a husband immediately deployed to Iraq, I was looking for books that expressed some of the feelings and experiences I was having to deal with daily. Unfortunately, for me, this book was overly sentimental with little of the real life thoughts and feelings of other military wives that I know and have talked with. The stories are true but they carry little substance or deep thought. I love and respect the military, their sacrifices and the sacrifices of those that are left behind, but this book was a huge disappointment. I would not recommend it to anyone else.

I just picked up my copy of this book today, signed by Sherry who I am proud to say I know personally. She is a VERY special individual and she has done a wonderful thing with this book. EVERYONE that has ever had a spouse deploy, or son, daughter, boyfriend or anyone else close to them, and even those who have not ever been in this situation, ALL can take something from this book. It is a quick reading book that can be shared with many. Way to go Sherry! You are someone that I KNOW was brought into my life for a reason.

This book moved me more than anything I have read in years! You will have to read this one alone and bring a box of Kleenexs. There was such a connection for both military and non-military mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers. I can't wait for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that tells the stories of the families, September 25, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Homefires: War through the eyes of a military wife (Paperback)
This book will bring tears to the eyes of anyone who has or have had a family member or friend in the military. The trials and test and sometimes even the funny things that happen to them. It will finally let people not in the military know what happens when our soldiers leave their families.
