This book is good but its not great. It offers a very straight forward narrative that alternates between what happens to Ben Walker and Walker's journal. The author only really fleshes out a few other characters so its hard to get attached to some of them. However, the ones that are fleshed out like Wally Kopple are likable and at times sarcastic in the best of ways. I overall enjoyed the book with its short chapters and recurring action sequences. It's not chalked full of senseless action but it happens enough to keep the book on a fast-pace ride. It won't be winning any literary awards anytime soon but it offers an incite into a real possible future. I found that to be the most disturbing aspect of it all. This could really happen, maybe not by a "Unified Korea" but who knows. If you plan on playing the game, like I do, you will like this prequel and will likely feel more connected to the game as it plays out. If you're looking for an easy, quick read with action and a little romance this is the book for you.

This book is action packed and was the perfect setup!!! If you are a gamer and like to know more about the backround of your games, read the books. Benson and Milius did a wonderful job drawing the reader into an alternate reality. The book is believable, realistic, and most of all highly plausible. If you have the game and are reading this, READ IT(if you like the game lol). If you want to know more about your future in Occupied America get your information here !!!

This book was an amazing look inside a possible but unsettleing future. this book follows the story of ex-reporter ben walker fleeing his L.A home weeks after an EMP detonation and a full scale invasion by The Greater Korean Republic. later in the book Ben is known as THe Voice Of Freedom, the voice of a propaganda resistance radio station provoding info on attacks and battles involving the nationwide resistance cells and the GKR. By the end, Walker had taken a beating throughout the book, but that just proves us Americans are determined. it was an overall good book but it scares the crap out of me just thinking about this becoming reality. i hope you find this review helpful!

I've been a huge fan of John Milius' work for as long as I can remember, and this book just seems to shred any doubt I may have had. This book follows Ben Walker ( The "Voice of Freedom" you hear during the loading screens between chapters in the game) and takes place between the days leading up to the EMP that sets this franchise in motion, all the way to right up before Robert Jacobs' story takes place in the video game. This book does a phenomenal job in explaining the back story to what goes on in the game, and really sheds a horrific light on how terrible things became after the EMP and during the Occupation. I'm not a huge fan of reading fiction, but I can safely say this book combines the better parts of the struggle of Pearl S. Buck's "The Good Earth" with the dynamic progression and flow of Tom Clancy's Character Jack Ryan(Patriot Games,The Hunt for Red October,Clear and Present Danger, etc).

In short, this book not only "fills in the cracks" for the story in the Video game, but it does so much more to establish the universe of Homefront. It's an examination into the vulnerability we've as a technological society have exposed ourself to, and an emotional exploration of both the American and Human spirit. The uneasy thing about this universe is that all of the events portrayed in this story are so plausible it almost looks as if you're looking into your future.

I would recommended this book to ANYONE. It mixes the nuances more thoroughly read people will enjoy with enough action to keep the modest reader entertained.

i actually read this after playing the game. the book is set before the goings on of the game and kind of set the stage for what's happening. there's even one throwaway moment where the character you play in the game shows up, never to reappear... anyway the book kept my attention all the way through and definitely kept the excitement level up. i loved the main character because he's just an 'everyman' who steps up.

my only gripe is with the ending... it left very little closure and in the end had very little to do with the video game, which also in my opinion had very little closure. so it seems like they are trying to set up a franchise but, due to some poor reviews of the game itself, may never come to pass. so just be ready to be wondering what happens next... and not get any answers...

If you like or love the Homefront game I'd recommend getting the book, it shows more of the characters you know and adds some new ones. This book also goes a little deeper into how life is like living in an occupied USA and how some of the Koreans think as you see the POV of a sleeper agent as well as "The Voice of Freedom" from the games.

Hope those who buy this book enjoy it as I did.

This book was hard to put down. I live in MO and was surprised at the accuracy of the towns and area around the state. This better be the first of at least a follow-up book or trilogy. Once you start this book it is hard to put down. LATER.
