Book Description

March 1, 1998
Think fruit and most people think orchard--not exactly the most practical backyard addition. Dispelling this myth, HOMEGROWN FRUIT tells how to grow an enticing assortment of manageable projects, from strawberries and grapes to quince and kumquat, that work beautifully in just about any space. Seldom is a pleasure so sweet as harvesting succulent fruit from your own garden or planter. 77 color photos.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

One of the major premises of Homegrown Fruit is that anyone armed with the interest, the will, and the right information can grown their own fruits--you do not need to live on a farm, have a huge yard, live in a special climate zone, or have a green thumb. An amazing variety of fruits can be raised in limited space, indoors, or in pots. Luebbermann covers the characteristics of fruit, the methods of growing fruit, the basics of pruning, potted fruits, vines and brambles, fruit trees, and heirloom and exotic varieties of fruit. She includes a large section on canning, cooking with, and preparing fruits in a variety of ways--jams, vinegar, syrups, and baked goods--as well as a source list for seeds and plants. This book will get your juices flowing! --Mark A. Hetts

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very tasty..., September 22, 2004

This review is from: Homegrown Fruit: Simple Secrets for Glorious Gardens-Indoors and Out (Paperback)
If this was a large, hardcover book with a lot more pictures it would make a nice coffee table book. However, it's a small, paperback book with a good number of pictures (some so small as to be only decorative), a fancy font that makes reading annoying, and not very much information of interest to those hoping to grow their own fruit. There are better books out there for beginners, including those by Stella Otto.
