I have seen many documentaries on Native Americans and they all had one thing in common and that was a tendency to portray Native Americans as the stereotypes of the Hollywood films of the 1950s: slow witted, dangerously two-faced, and violent, without morals, history, or culture. They were seen as inferior in every way to "regular" White people, without whom they could not survive.

With intelligence and sensitivity, "Homeland Nation: Episone 1 - Mescalero Apache", goes a long way in dispelling those stereotypes. The Mescalero Apaches are my neighbors here in Southern New Mexico and I can attest to the fact that this DVD depicts their reality as well as the culture and history of the Mescaleros, and their extended family, the Lipan, Chiricahua, and the Warm Springs Apache people. They are wise beyond their years, they have a deep sense of humor and deep connections to the divine. This DVD is their reality.
