Book Description

Frightfully fun Halloween recipes, from the sweet to the savory, the grotesque to the gourmet – cakes and candy, party dips, drinks, and more – a colorful assortment of bloody good food that will make your Halloween party a spooktacular event! And to top things off, the authors have included a ghostly little story from Volume 3 of their “Odd True Tales” series (ASIN: B009LTC42I). You’ll find it at the end of the recipes, as a special bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gourmet and Ghoulish Recipes for Haloween October 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book contains a really varied assortment of Halloween and fall-themed treats. The recipes range from creepy party-type fare (crunchy "worms" and "bone" cookies) to gourmet recipes that could be part of a healthy Halloween meal (pumpkin seed pesto and colcannon dip).

I was glad to see that there are many "from scratch" recipes in this book as well as many recipes that use more convenient foods such as boxed cake mix and boxed pudding mix. This book has something to offer for anyone who is looking for creative Halloween recipes.

I also really liked the Halloween quotes and stories in the book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs pictures November 2, 2012

I got the book for free so I can't really complain but since this is a festive holiday book, I would have liked pictures to better understand the end product of the recipe. Also, I found more creative stuff on pinterest.

For being around a 25 page booklet that is to be homemade Halloween Treats less than half of it is actual treats, which should never be and could benefit greatly from a revised 2nd Edition.

Also, more time should have been put into formatting and there are no page numbers. For example, the title or the recipe "Popcorn Cake" is at the bottom of one page and the actual recipe starting at the top of the other. There are lots of recipes for popcorn balls and some for popcorn cake...a way to make it your own would be to press the mixture into a children's character cake pan, take it out when cool and zombify it with red and green icing. I would love to see Zombie "Barney" or Mickey Mouse" popcorn cake.

1st page is copy write info and starts with the table of contents - odd as table of contents usually start on the 2nd page. It even then it starts with a sub heading then cuts to the next page.

Pages 2 and the top part of 3 are the rest of the table of contents. The next two pages, up to the top part of page 5 are quotes.

Only the bottom part of page 5 to the top of page 15 are the actual recipes and not really anything you cannot get if you search the web for free. It needed more content and more original content. A way to make it their own would have been a great photo of each treat or more of a "how-to" step-by-step approach to bring the reader more into his process. More of the "Colcannon Dip" and "Bizarre Bubbling Brew" less of the "Grave Dirt Pudding with Bones".

The rest of page 15 to 21 is a "Special Bonus Story" that is a reprint from another book the author has written
Only pages from the bottom part page 5 to the top paragraph on page 15 are treats.

4.0 out of 5 stars High Four, Yummy Treats December 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First, I like to have everything in one place. So it is nice to have a book of Halloween treats. However, it would have been nice to have had more ideas in this book. Also, many of these same ideas can be found online. However, many of the recipes in this book are from scratch and that is very nice. I enjoyed this book and found it worth the money.

Enjoy.
