5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Beginners and Experienced Cooks, January 8, 2008
This review is from: Homemade in a Hurry: More than 300 Shortcut Recipes for Delicious Home Cooked Meals (Paperback)
This really is a wonderful cookbook. I bought it in college and it was really great for making quick, wholesome, tasty meals in what little time I had. Now I continue to use the book because the recipes are so wonderful; and I bought my mother a copy, which she uses on nights when she gets home late from work or doesn't feel like cooking.

Many cookbooks that advertise expedience have little to offer other than bad-tasting food. Not so with this book! The recipes are inventive and plentiful--it would take a long time to get tired of all the meals in this book! One of my favorite things about the book is that the author explains the reasoning behind some of the shortcuts he takes and also takes the time to educate the reader on how to perform basic cooking duties. I am an experienced cook and found the comments interesting and helpful rather than annoying.

I recently bought this book for a friend of mine who is very afraid of the kitchen. She has already made 3 recipes from the book, all of which were a success. Just a great, great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over 300 shortcut recipes show how to bring home-cooked meals into the world of fast, hectic schedules, October 14, 2006
This review is from: Homemade in a Hurry: More than 300 Shortcut Recipes for Delicious Home Cooked Meals (Paperback)
Over 300 shortcut recipes show how to bring home-cooked meals into the world of fast, hectic schedules with tips on how to streamline and improve the parts which take time - such as in a 10-Minute Vegetable Curry dish which remarks curry usually takes up too much time - but a jar of curry sauce does most of the work for you, leaving just chopping veggies and grilling flatbread for the 'homemade' touches. Another plus: recipes are gathered from culinary traditions around the world, so there's lots of choice and variety, from Chicken with Candied Pecans to Couscous Stuffed Peppers.

1.0 out of 5 stars too much stuff, April 4, 2009

Too much stuff. It was too exotic for my family, plus I am handicapped so I need something simple. I like to use spices and have a wide selection, so this was not an issue. I returned the book. I kept his slow cooker book.
