I love pretty much everything that The Hillbilly Housewife writes. She shares practical information on topics that the our fast paced world sometimes forgets about. The jelly and jam recipes look amazing! I can't wait to try the bacon jelly but freezer jam is first on my list. Not only is this a nice little recipe book but it shares cute stories about The Hillbilly Housewife.

Author Suzanne Myers has written an excellent cookbook filled with a wide variety of preserving recipes. Her cookbook contains directions on how sterilize jars and to how to process jellies and jams. I'd suggest downloading the USDA and NIFA Complete Guide to Home Canning Guide 1 Principles of Home Canning found for free online for more information on how to can. The USDA canning guide is the bible of canning and an excellent resource when it comes to learning how to can almost anything. The USDA guide offers step-by-step directions with graphics to help teach the canning process.

The recipes found in her cookbook sound wonderfully old-fashioned and I look forward to trying them. Some of the recipes you will find in her cookbook include:

Apple Jelly Made from Peels and Cores
Hot Mixed Pepper Jelly
Strawberry Jam
Apple Butter
Orange Lemon Marmalade

Recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jams, and Jellys Oh, My! August 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Oh, My! just read the book through, and my mouth is watering! I have the red currents in the garden and tomorrow I'm trying your jam!
Thought it was a wide selection of different jams and jellies, and I've never heard of Bacon in a jam before! I can see I will have to try several of these.
Thanks for the inspiration. "Homemade Jelly and Jam Recipes" will be a useful addition to my canning recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Fun Read All About Jams & Jellies October 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a concise, super fun little book all about jams & jellies. The HBHW adds little snippets to most if not all the recipes about her childhood or her family. These snippets make the book even more enjoyable than if it were just recipes. Every recipe is presented with easy to follow instructions. I borrowed this for free for my Kindle with my prime account and, after reading through it, I immediately bought it! It's that good!

There are several "old" favorites that will have you riminiscing about your own childhood such as Fig Jam, Apple Butter, Crabapple Jelly, and Blackberry Jam as well as some "new to me" ideas such as Apple Jelly Made From Peels and Cores, Bacon Refrigerator Jam, and Zucchini Pineapple Jam plus "go to favorites" like Grape Jelly & Strawberry Jam. The list goes on and on so don't miss out on this delightful little recipe book!
