5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a must-get for anyone interested in Homeopathy, June 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Homeopathic Self-Care: The Quick & Easy Guide for the Whole Family (Paperback)
As someone with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, I have been interested in all forms of natural healing but until this book came out, I could never seem to grasp the concept of Homeopathy nor use any of the information I had on it's methods to avoid drugs and treat common everyday ailments.

Then a health food store personnel recommended this book. Wow, what a find! Its so easy to use and understand. I recently treated an ear infection with homeopathic medicines using the recommendations for my symptoms, and along with some herbals, I was able to totally avoid the use of antibiotics, which with my condition would have made me very ill. The Ear specialist I consulted was certain that he would have to use antibiotics but after getting my cultures back after a week or, he was stunned. He said he would be comfortable with continuing to do nothing on his end.

If you want to self treat common everyday ailments safely and get results, this book is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly organized, easy to use self care guide., October 26, 2000
This review is from: Homeopathic Self-Care: The Quick & Easy Guide for the Whole Family (Paperback)
Like the title of the book says this is a self-care guide. It is the best book I've seen so far on treating common, acute ailments using homeopathic remedies - and I've read quite a few.

In the front of the book is a wonderful explanation of how homeopathic remedies work. Next, they've organized the book by various common ailments - everything from the common cold to poison ivy.

Each ailment section contains easy to use, step by step instructions for evaluating symptoms and choosing a remedy. Including a handy chart listing several possible remedies and the various indications for it. You use these charts to examine both your physical and emotional state and what makes you feel better or worse. Based upon this information, you choose the remedy that best fits your symptoms.

These charts are effective for personal treatment or treatment of family and friends. I like to let my family look at the chart and pick the remedy they think they need.

I don't think you'll find a more easy to use homeopathic self-care reference book anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Beginning Book for Family Homeopathy, December 29, 2004
This review is from: Homeopathic Self-Care: The Quick & Easy Guide for the Whole Family (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book to those who want to learn more about homeopathy through practice. The book lives up to its description: most readers will be able to spend a couple hours with the book and begin using it. The companion medicine kit adds tremendous value to the book, and its supplier is reliable and helpful; in fact, I believe that we would have found it frustrating had we not bought the kit because most of the remedies the book recommends are in the kit; you do not have to go out when you are sick to get several remedies that you think you might need as you work through the illness. In addition, the kit is compact and very economical compared to buying remedies in stores.

My family has used this book for several years, and it has enabled us to achieve some remarkable healing. Before using this book, we had tried to use Boericke's Materia Medica, but we found that it had too much information without providing a framework to integrate and apply the information. This book's great achievement is that it is written from the perspective of someone who wants to learn by experimenting. It doesn't try to teach the reader homeopathy, but the reader learns through practice.

I was compelled to buy the book when I saw that it compared, side by side, different remedies within the rubric of a malady like "common cold," "teething," "hay fever," "coughs and bronchitis," or "burns." Therefore, it is possible to compare and contrast different remedies within the context of physical and mental symptoms. It also provides all the basic information about homeopathy and guidelines you need to know, like dosages and how homeopathic care relates to over the counter allopathic medicine and herbal remedies. I also recommend buying the Materia Medica because it contains more detailed information on each remedy (when you need it or are curious about it).

It is truly a guide to family homeopathy. Virtually all common injuries and illnesses that we have experienced (parents and child) are covered in the book in a straightforward manner. It has travelled around the world with us. It is a tremendous service to people who want to participate in and manage their healing.

Homeopathy is a completely different approach to healing than the "traditional" allopathic approach. You have to learn to think differently about what illness means and how to heal by restoring balance by using remedies. It is very complex and difficult to approach as a layperson, and you will not succeed all the time, but the satisfaction of healing when you nail the right remedy is fantastic! The more you practice, the more you will succeed. This book's gift is that it enables the motivated reader to develop a skill that will return a lifetime of benefit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, highly recommend!, February 26, 2011
This review is from: Homeopathic Self-Care: The Quick & Easy Guide for the Whole Family (Paperback)
First, I must say I am disappointed at the person who gave this book "one star." He uses the word "may" which signifies to me that he hasn't even looked at, let alone purchased the book. Please do not let his post turn you away. Second, Dr. Ullman is our homeopath and the results we have seen with him have been nothing short of miraculous. Homeopathy really does work! As ONE EXAMPLE, I suffered from a car accident injury and almost daily suffered niggling pain, which would often turn into severe pain where I could not turn my head for almost a full week. Dr. Ullman recommended Arnica 30C and now when I feel that pain coming on, I take the Arnica and it goes completely away (and never becomes "full blown"). Thankfully I live in California where I can purchase remedies not only at a local Wellness store, but at Whole Foods (a local grocery store chain). I purchased both the book and the kit (containing fifty of the most common remedies). I use this ALL the time. The more you use it the better you get at finding the right remedy quickly. It can help you find the right remedy for just about every ailment you can come up with! I'll never forget how quickly "Urtica urens" (stinging nettle) helped my daughter recover from a second degree burn. If you buy this book, you will not be disappointed, but make sure you have access to remedies (I highly recommend purchasing the kit too, which can be found on their website or ordered directly from the company called Washington Homeopathic Products, Inc.). And, no, Dr. Ullman doesn't even know I'm writing this review! I just was looking for a link to recommend his book to a friend and I was hoping to find a "look inside this book" link and I found this one and saw the reviews and wanted to give my "two-cents" worth!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Beginners Book, June 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Homeopathic Self-Care: The Quick & Easy Guide for the Whole Family (Paperback)
This is a great book for beginners. Not as in depth as The Complete Homeopathy Handbook (by Miranda Castro), but a very good book for beginners. Very well organized and put together for simplification on finding the correct remedy for the proper ailment.
