Book Description

April 1, 1997
Approaching menopause as a natural and essentially positive stage in a woman's life, this book shows how to safely treat its symptoms with gentle, all-natural homeopathic remedies.

Growing numbers of women are dissatisfied with the often dangerous or uncomfortable side effects of conventional hormone replacement therapy and are seeking safer, more holistic ways of approaching the symptoms of menopause. Homeopathy is especially appropriate for treating a wide range of these symptoms because it treats the whole person--not just isolated symptoms--and emotional issues are given as much weight as physical ones.

Author Beth MacEoin clearly explains the basics of homeopathy for beginners, outlining step-by-step the process of considering the overall symptom picture and selecting the proper remedy and dosage. She shows you how to treat common discomforts that may arise before, during, or after menopause, including menstrual irregularities, hot flashes, night sweats, depression, low self-esteem, weight gain, sleep disturbances, and aching joints. Taking a broad perspective on promoting good health and general well-being, the author also covers ways to guard against osteoporosis and suggests other self-help measures that will support homeopathic treatment.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Written for beginners and experienced subscribers to homeopathic remedies, this book is broken down into seven chapters and incorporates charts that outline symptoms and their homeopathic treatment. It also includes suggestions for further reading and resources for more information. Women going through menopause and health care professionals who treat women could benefit from the information in this book."

This review is from: Homeopathy for Menopause (Paperback)
If you are looking for a good book about homeopathic treatment for menopause, I would recommend Menopause and Homeopathy: A Guide for Women in Midlife by Ifeoma Ikenze. Homeopathy for Menopause seems to subscribe to the archaic belief (among other archaic beliefs mentioned in the book) that empty-nest syndrome contributes to menopausal sympoms. Read Dr. Vliet's book, Screaming to Be Heard. Rathering than using current scientific / medical understanding of how hormones and decreasing levels of hormones cause symptoms, this book seems to give the impression that a woman should just "get over it". There are a few statements in the book that indicate very little understanding of the changes that women go through based on declining levels of many different hormones (not just estrogen and progesterone). It is sort of kind of useful as yet another source of information for homeopathic remedies but don't use it as a way to validate your own particular set of symptoms that the change may be causing - they don't understand enough of what is really happening and seem to want to impose their own thoughts on women who may be experiencing something else.
