excellent debut,

an absolute Must Buy for industrial collectors, this album (which was originally released in 1993) sounds much influenced by early skinny puppy. very dramatic and raw; there are quite a few minimalist tracks woven through spooky samples (mostly from the "aliens" movie) which often build into very powerful electronic rythms. it also contains some excellent EBM tracks, including the original "eye over you" and the club hit "slugbait". as a word of caution though, this album has very little in common with their recent work and has considerably more energy and emotion -- so much so that fans of "less" might not be able to handle it; this album is a display of genius and is not for the light hearted.

Good old fashioned classic Industrial album,

I was sad when Skinny Puppy broke up, and hadn't heard much good Industrial music since Last Rights or The Downward Spiral (well, the Process was pretty good). I'm not much into Electronica, and Frontline Assembly fills their own niche. When I first heard this album I about did flip because it sounded like good ol' natural Industrial again. Stuff like this is hardly ever around anymore for some reason, and the minimal stuff there is sounds like some goth cheese-ballad band trying to mimic Skinny Puppy. It just doesn't work. This album on the other hand is phenomenal. It's a little more straightforward than most Skinny Puppy albums, and mixes some Frontline Assembly-like electronica and bass beats in it. They do it their own way though, with some unique beats and sublime noise experiments. They also do alot of film dubbing, such as Ripley from Aliens, and even Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. I miss the old-school Industrial. Say what you will about it, Industrial is as timeless to me as rock and roll, and we need more of it.

A taste of things to come...,

An auspicious debut... haujobb, while still fresh from the womb, musically speaking, deliver a hard assault on the eardrums. It's a long road from here to their later work, and you can certainly hear the Skinny Puppy and Leæther Strip influences, but there's a certain quality to this disk that shines through. Tracks like Homes and Gardens and Skullfission are a pointer to future greatness.A word to the wise... this cd is poorly mastered... I'd give it a 4 if it was remastered to the level of the later material.

An early masterpiece from one of the premier Electro-Industrial acts,

As an early work, this album is surprisingly cohesive and entertaining. Anyone who says the album is poorly mastered is obviously not a big fan of electro-industrial to begin with.I find it to be masterfully mixed and expertly mastered. It is one of their most straight-forward industrial and in-your-face recordings to date, and it helped to cement Haujobb as one of the best electro-industrial acts of the '90s and beyond. Without a strong electro basis to start with such as Homes & Gardens, they may never have been so influential in mixing other styles of electronic music and bringing them to the forefront of Industrial music.

Haujobb's Start,

Haujobb's humble beginnings. This album is nowhere near as great as later releases but everyone has to start somewhere.Although I can't think of any real highlights on here, the songs definitley flow and make a solid release. I wouldn't reccomend this being your first Haujobb CD though.

Depressing,

Strange to see Haujobb mutate from this gothic self-indulgence to the cyber vision of "Solutions for a Small Planet". This album is only for the hardcore goths out there. I should know - I used to be one (shhhh...). There are already signs here of electronic genius, but the "life owes me" attitude spoils it. The title track is about the only worthwhile number here, besides some impressive loops and effects. Yeah, my opinion is biased and I have the right to be. If you're into original cyber, get "Solutions", or if you like a strange minimalist mix of lounge, cyber and ambient, get "Ninety Nine". On the other hand, if you like NIN, Leæther Strip and the third generation B-grades/clones/"Dark Wave" found on some Cleopatra Records releases, this'll be right up your alley...
