This review is from: New Homes in a New Land German Immigration to Texas, 1847-1861 (Paperback)
This is the second of their books, you will want to read A New Land Beckoned first. This book has a breif history preceeding the massive German immigration of the mid 1800's. Then there is the narrative of what was going on during the years encompassed by the book. There are list's compiled of Germans before 1836, Germans killed at Goliad, and others killed in the battle for Texas independence. The entire narrative section of the book is but 34 pages, the ballance of it contains lists of ships, a few pictures, and examples of documents from the period. The largest section by far is the list of Names of German Immigrants from 1847 to 1861, which is more than 100 pages. an example listing is:

Magel, H. and family - Odenhausen to Seguin; Gaston, 1857

(This is actually my 3rd great grandfather) While there is not great detailed information of individuals, you might find a tidbit of info about your ancestor, or a clue to build on. The best reason to have this book is for the background information of the times, and what the majority of the immigrants were experiencing. I would definatly get both again, as they compliment each other and gives a better understanding of the overall picture.
