This is a superb book for historians, students, psychologists, and any individual who desires to learn about life inside two 19th century mental hospitals. Dwyer utilizes the case histories of 19th century mental patients to offer a fascinating peek at what life was like inside the asylum (religious, social, medical, etc.) This is one of the major books relating to the history of psychology/psychiatry and is a must for anyone interested in the field!!
