5.0 out of 5 stars This step by step guide is a great resource!, December 12, 2005

We are currently assembling a portfolio for my homeschooled teen. Loretta Heuer's book has been very helpful. The author includes easy to follow instructions on how to document learning and present the homeschooled college applicant in the best possible light. The book emphasizes that even non-traditional learners or unschoolers can pull together a solid transcript. Particularly useful were the reproducible worksheets used for listing films viewed, books read, trips taken, etc. Heuer even goes into great detail on the importance of word choice, and her organized list of verbs is a nice bonus. I feel a lot more confident about the whole admissions process after reading this guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Homeschool Portflios, August 3, 2005
This review is from: Homeschooler's Guide to Portfolios and Transcripts (Paperback)
I have homeschooled for 5 yrs and we are always looking for better organization for our evaluations and now we will be facing graduation and then college. This book has been a tremdous help to me. Letters, forms, what to expect the colleges will be looking for as well as our local school when we have our yearly evaluation for the county. Full of excellent material, helpful hints and "how to" letters to be written to school officials, colleges, ect.and most importantly to me, how to put it all together so our best work and achievements can be showcased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Shortchange Your Child, October 6, 2007

This book was purchased through a third party seller who was prompt and communicative. Received when and in the condition promised.

The book itself was very helpful in suggesting a variety of means of recording homeschool progress and achievement.

Don't shortchange your child by not documenting their homeschool education. That means documenting the knowledge gained, not just listing the activities performed. (ie: "Discovered pi x r2 is the formula for calculating the area of a circle", not: "Checked out a math book at the library today.").

This book will show you everything you need to do it right.

This review is from: Homeschooler's Guide to Portfolios and Transcripts (Paperback)
I have homeschooled for 12 years. I used this book to prepared transcript and portfolio for my eldest child who applied to colleges/universities last year. This book is excellent - straight forward, easy to follow, plenty of examples. You can not go wrong with this book.

I haven't read the whole book yet, but this is THE book our state's homeschool coalition recommended highly. Get this book before your kids are in high school so you can become familiar with all the information needed to get started right away keeping great transcripts from their freshman year.
