NCIS is my all time favorite show. I even responded "OOOrah" to a man as I got off an elevator last week after hearing him say "Semper Fi" to another man. He grinned and turned to look at me and I said "huge Gibb's fan". He nodded. I'm a grandmother and not a marine so I hope I was not being disrespectful as I meant it with utmost respect. I will buy this season when it is released as I have all the others, but will not pay the price that it costs at this time (my least favorite season). I think the Bishop character is shallow and uninteresting and has no major contribution to the show. Leave all the terrorism plots to NCIS: L.A. Glad the later episodes are starting to feel like the previous seasons. I look forward to a tribute show recognizing Ralph Waite/Jackson Gibbs. I'm sure they are all reeling from Cote's unexpected departure, as we all are. Change happens and "the show must go on", but I hope the NCIS family will find their way back to the quality, chemistry and human interests storylines we all love and look forward to each week. It's patriotism, humor and caring, not only for each other but for the secondary characters, is what we all appreciate (love Gibb's with children and animals). I would like to see Coast Guard Abby as the replacement for Ziva. Even Colonel Hollis Mann would be a better fit than Bishop if Susanna Thompson is available. The actors and behind the scene personnel still do a great job and I will remain a loyal fan forever.

I just got the DVDs from Amazon. I had read that Ziva had quit. I saw the blond on the DVD packet and eagerly watched the first six episodes wanting to see a new brilliant actress. However, when we got to episode seven and Bishop came on, there was a noticeable shift in writing levels, the chemistry seemed to disappear, the high school genius character was more high school than genius (I know she is much older than high school, but her behavior doesn't show it.)
Overall, the program took a significant nosedive in quality. Bring Ziva back or find an actress who is worthy to fill the shoes of Diva and Kate. This Bishop chic is bringing the whole show down to mediocre, at best.

I have to agree with the other low ratings on this one - namely the Bishop character has to go. Don't know what the writers were on when they decided to make her a regular but clearly they haven't thought it all the way through. We have a quirky, smart part in Abby. We have the computer geek in McGee. Replacing Ziva with a character that has no depth and no unique skills was a totally ridiculous move. They've had several female parts come and go who were more intersting than Bishop. Not at all like when they replaced Kate. The team dynamic changed, but in a good way. And the story lines leave somewhat to be desired as well. A lot of characters not acting at all like themselves and losing the personal interactions that attracted so many of us to the series in the first place. If they can't return to some of the older feel and a better team balance they might as well just end the series before they ruin it completely.

If I had not fallen in love with these characters over the yeas, I would no longer be watching. Ellie Bishop is uninteresting despite the fact that they tried to give her a history. She just seems juvenile and boring. Tony, Abby and Tim never mention Ziva, it's like she just dropped off the face of the Earth. When Kate died, all of the characters mourned for her and mentioned her, and still did up until this season. Episode one and two were excellent, but starting with episode three, things just seem to be falling apart. Do we have new writers? The episode featuring Jimmy a few weeks ago was so contrived feeling, it's only purpose was to focus on the character of Jimmy and all of the dialogue seemed very out of character and uncomfortable. It's almost like the writers have forgotten ten years of history, if things don't improve, NCIS is headed for the end.

My husband and I were rabid NCIS fans - we have all the NCIS season DVD's, the introduction to NCIS DVD's from JAG episodes, and the NCIS Playfest DVD. Our dog is even named "Gibbs." We were bitterly disappointed with the addition of the ditzy (yet supposedly brilliant) blond, Ellie Bishop. She fits, in no way, with the team. She does a solo act and plays a lone wolf. She is insolent, and is a smart mouth, and based on his past behavior, Gibbs would have fired her long ago. Recognizing the changing scene of crime, all the terrorism plots are understandable, but they're complicated, obscure at best, and seem almost designed for this new character. (And frankly, we can get enough "terrorism" by watching the evening news.) Part of the show's appeal was the fact that all characters were "good guys" who tried to "do the right thing. Ducky's and Abbey's contributions now seem to be irrelevant, and the other characters have faded into the background. Ziva was unique as was Kate. Are they irreplaceable? Surely the writers can formulate a new role and the casting staff fill it with a more appropriate replacement who will blend, not clash, with the show's present chemistry. Perhaps Mark Harmon needs to talk to the people who did the casting for MASH who replaced multiple characters without taking away from the show's symmetry. If something doesn't change, I am afraid that NCIS will be relegated to the dust heap. If they are trying to get rid of Gibbs, then do it. Please don't allow a wonderful series to dribble away, become an empty shell and leave all of its faithful viewers disillusioned and unhappy.
