5.0 out of 5 stars It cut my birdfeed bill in half!
When I first got this birdfeeder, it cut my birdfeed bill by more than half. The squirrels had been draining my previous feeder almost daily. The feeder survived squirrels in 3 different states over the course of our various moves and did a wonderful job before finally meeting its end during a 60 mph wind gust. I obviously hadn't fastened it well enough and it crashed...

2.0 out of 5 stars Stop squirrels - not so much
This is my second Homestead squirrel stop bird feeder. The old one was several years old, but a bear finally did it in. So, I quickly ordered the replacement, but was just as quickly disappointed. The first day, I saw that squirrels had figured out how to get into it. They get onto the feeding platform, then hook their rear claws between the glass and the top, then push...

The feeder survived squirrels in 3 different states over the course of our various moves and did a wonderful job before finally meeting its end during a 60 mph wind gust. 5.0 out of 5 stars Make your money back in bird seed in the first season.., March 17, 2007
This review is from: Homestead 3201S Super Stop A Squirrel Wild Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
I love the birds that come to my outdoor feeding station. I have multiple feeders out, depending on the time of year, but this unit is mounted to cedar post year round. I never had much of a squirrel problem, however, wite wing doves will raid any feeder with a platform. They are locked out of this one, but the Northern Cardinals can still enjoy it. I don't know what is best about this thing. The 11 lbs of seed it holds, the steel construction or the fact that it only feeds from a single side, so I can point it at the house and not miss a bird. (Most of these weight sensitive feeders feed from two hoppers.)
I highly recomend this unit as the central piece of your bird feeding station. I have purchased over a dozen feeders, and none of them bring this entire group of features to the table.

The thing locks squirrels out but I've seen a mouse stocking up on seeds from it! You also have to make sure there is NOTHING close for the squirrel to stand on and reach from because he/she/it has to hit the tension rod to close off the food...
I do wish the port was wider because cardinals and birds of that size have a tough time perching on the small space. It's easy to keep clean, fill, etc.

This is my second Homestead squirrel stop bird feeder. The old one was several years old, but a bear finally did it in. So, I quickly ordered the replacement, but was just as quickly disappointed. The first day, I saw that squirrels had figured out how to get into it. They get onto the feeding platform, then hook their rear claws between the glass and the top, then push lightly (like a bird) to get all the seed they want. Homestead must have changed the design because previously there wasn't enough room for the squirrels to get their grimy claws over the top of the glass. You can't caulk the space or anything, either, because it would prevent one from lifting the top and filling the feeder.

At least it's summer and the birds can fend for themselves while I keep looking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes a lickin', keeps on tickin' !!!, December 8, 2006
This review is from: Homestead 3201S Super Stop A Squirrel Wild Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
Have had this feeder as well as an earlier version for some 17+ years
now and it's thumbs up! You can adjust the tension to however light or
heavy a birdie you want to have visit it. The squirrels have tried every which way to get to to the seed but it's designed so they just tend to
slide off.
I do have to mention that I have my feeder mounted onto to the side of
a tree and don't have anything close by that the squirrels can reach out
to in order to assist in their quest for bird food though...feeder is
mounted on mature tree with no low lying branches close by, think that's important to mention if you're trying to deter squirrel munchings.
The tree mounted version is my preference because I like the way it looks, don't have to worry about getting a pole into the ground and staying upright. Very pleased with feeder and it withstands harsh weathervery well. I've just moved and left my old one behind so I'm going to buy
another! PS: I also feed the squirrels on the other side of my yard :),
they're fun to watch too!

We were disappointed that this design failed to keep squirrels out of the birdseed due to one major problem: the hood does not fit snugly on the seed hopper. The gap that is created between the hood and the hopper is large enough to allow the squirrels in our yard (smart, they are) to flatten their bodies and squeeze their way into the hopper. Once inside, they eat to their hearts' content, then shovel all of the seed out the open end of the feeder. After they have emptied the hopper, they squeeze their way out through the gap and join their squirrel buddies on the ground for the feast they have created.

We threw away the box in which the feeder came, otherwise, we'd return it!

It's truly squirrel-proof. In fact this is my second one to buy. I bought it for almost $50 through Amazon but after I'd already ordered I spotted the same feeder at Wal-Mart for $29.95!

We love this bird feeder. It's hysterical watching the squirrels try to get onto it but 99% of the time they slide right off. In the couple months we've had it, we've only spotted one squirrel on it and it was hard to tell if he was getting any seed or just hanging onto the small platform! Our only wish is that the platform was larger so that our cardinals would perch on it but it's not big enough to attract them. The smaller birds love it - nuthatches, chickadees, gold and other finches, titmice, etc, etc. Terrific cost savings as the squirrels were wiping out at every bit of sunflower we put out every single day in all our feeders. Now they're rationed and there's always some for the birds in the BIRD feeder.

2.0 out of 5 stars squirrels are too smart and agile for this product, August 4, 2010

Despite there already being a review that said squirrel's could still access seed , I ordered one anyway.Well,my squirrels learned in a few hours how to hike their butts UP the plexiglass face, hook their toenails over a gap between the hood and front. They then, more or less, balance their front paws on a stationery part, stick their nose into the seed slots and proceed to feast away.I think the the "storm hood" extends a wee too far out allowing this balancing act.Slight design flaw has rendered a potentially great feeder into a buffett for squirrels.
