THIS FEEDER HAS A MAJOR & DANGEROUS FLAW. I recently purchased the Fly Thru Metal Gazebo Feeder (3400)and there is a dangerous flaw for small birds! Yesterday an Oregon Junco was behaving oddly at that particular feeder and after a few moments I realized his foot was TRAPPED in the feeder. It was trapped where the metal floor of the platform is folded up in order to hold the seeds. The bird struggled and struggled to get free. When it finally did I went out and took the platform down and saw that there was blood, a lot of blood for such a small bird. I have to wonder if the poor thing even lived through the night.

After I took the feeder down I used aquarium sealant to fill all the gaps. And I have also contacted various suppliers of this feeder to let them know that the manufacturer needs to CLOSELY crimp the 6 floor folds.

Duncraft, who also sells this feeder, was very supportive and the president of their company wrote to the manufacturer!

have the same feeder and small birds get their feet stuck in the crimped up opening in the metal to hold the seed in,also the metal strips that hold the top and bottom together rusted and came apart..

I was just reading some of the reviews and thinking, "Huh!" I have three of these and have had them for five or more years. They have stood up to bears snacking on the seed, NH winters and lots of use. They do look a little worn now but I have never had a problem of birds getting caught in them. All types of birds will visit these feeders. I have had to replace one rivet with a screw and nut but only due to bear handling. I will probably buy new ones to replace or add to the ones I have. Just this week I have counted more than a dozen different types of birds visiting these filled with sunflower hearts. Love them!!

I looked out the window this morning and saw a sparrow hanging upside down off the side of the feeder. His foot had become trapped between two of the poorly crimped joints at the bottom of the feeder. I managed to free him, but if I hadn't been at home I don't know how long he would have survived. If you do buy this feeder, please make sure to use some type of sealant on the poorly crimped corner folds.

I have owned one of these bird feeders before. Eventually it starts to rust at the rivots securing the support bars, but mine lasted a good 3 years before needing replacement. This is a very practical feeder, Cardinals love it and it gives the birds a place out of the rain. This time I have applied clear nail polish to the unpainted rivots in hopes this will delay rusting.

Have had this type of bird feeder before and love the design. However this one is cheaply made and actually arrived broken due to the use of rivets instead of bolts to attach the supports. My husband had to drill out all the rivets and replace them with bolts before we could use it.

Stabilization bars flimsy at best. After approximately two weeks of bird use, the house now sits at an angle due to loose fasteners. Purchased three of these and they all look the same. "Loopsided"!!
