Francis unplugged, October 19, 2003
This review is from: Hometown 2001 Live (Audio CD)
Made in UK in 2001, Serial# AN-002, Playing Time 69:23
Recorded at Whitehaven Civic Hall, Cumbria, England on July 14, 2001. The songs are performed by Francis on vocals and acoustic guitar, along with Matthew Pegg on bass; no keyboards, no drums.
The comparison with Peter Gabriel's voice is inevitable; Francis' voice that night was in good shape, and it's interesting to hear acoustic renditions of all that material. 5 songs were first recorded on his previous studio effort,
"Man", which was already very soft; but other tracks, especially the 4 that came from "Tall Blonde Helicopter", are shown in a new and pleasant light.
The setting is very intimate, and the presence of the audience can generally only be heard between the songs.
An enjoyable listening experience, particularly if you enjoy the folk-troubadour aspect of this gifted songwriter.
