5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Nice Record April 28, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Muriel Anderson is a truly accomplished player. She is one of only two people ever to win the Winfield Fingerpicking Championship playing nylon string guitar. She is a respected teacher (I think at Belmont College in Nashville) and the boss of those Murial Anderson All-Star Guitar Nights that attract all the best pickers around. I think she is unique because she plays in a style where you usually hear a steel string guitar. It is not unfair to compare her to Chet Atkins. My favorite is "It Never Gets Easier," but she plays the fast stuff as well as the melancholy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An underrated master of the guitar. June 23, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Yes, It is appropriate to compare Murial to Chet Atkins, who was one of her teachers, as was classical teenage-prodigy Christopher Parkening. Murial Anderson is still the only woman ever to win the (Winfield) National fingerpicking championship, and is a huge supporter of music in the schools with her own foundation.

Perhaps you've never heard her before, or you're trying to get into guitar playing a little bit and aren't sure who you should begin your listening library with--Murial Anderson is a wonderful place to start your guitar music collection because she is a master of so many styles. This is top-notch playing, but it is also exquisitely beautiful guitar music. You could not go wrong with any of her discs, but so far Hometown Live is my favorite.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT in any category-box August 9, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
For anyone thinking that classical/nylon-string guitar is limited to the classical repertoire, this is a breath of fresh air.

From semi-flamenco style to homey pop to finger-picking to, yes, traditional classical pieces ... to just plain F U N, this is NEAT stuff. Seldom does playing so describe an individual, but, while listening, I kept thinking ... what a happy, gentle soul ,,, reason enough, alone, to listen.

Muriel Anderson plays so competently, pragmatically ... and, refreshingly cleanly with nary a squeak (much artful Mastery, here). She is a gentle, tasteful entertainer ... with a twinkle in the eye ... of her playing.

Terrific, inspiring stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Muriel Anderson, guitar, atkins July 3, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I love classical music and play classical guitar. However, though Muriel Anderson can certainly play the difficult classical pieces, she also knows how to entertain. From Vivaldi's Concerto in D to King of the Road - she gives you the music in this CD that proves her guitar mastery. Great CD to listen to while relaxing. Acoustics are extremely well done and compliment her playing - this is one of the few live CDs I've ever heard where the guitar sounds fantastic as opposed someone playing inside of a 50 gallon drum. Highly recommend.
