The manufacturer's website clearly states that the item may not work on salt water, so not for ocean and not for salt water pools. These pools are everywhere, so make sure your child won't be useing the salt water pools or the ocean.
Still looking for a product like this one, but that actually works regardless of the kind of water the child falls into.
