One of the best...,
By I was thrilled with it since some of the other machines I tried sewing the heavy fabric wih didn't make the grade. The bells and whistles that other machines have and you pay a pretty penny for hardly ever get used. You won't be sorry with this purchase.

Great sewing machine,

My daughter and son-in-law gave me this sewing machine as a gift. I was always complaining about how my high priced %#@## machine sewed sideways over a seam with any thickness at all. I longed for the Singer machine I grew up with. Well, let me tell you, I put this machine to the test.
The first thing I did was play with it, of course. All the feet supplied are made out of plastic, except for the main foot. I was testing the 1/4" sewing foot, and set the machine to zig-zag, forgetting which foot I had attached. It broke, but I found a great site where I can get all the quality feet I want for this machine. The first thing I made is a jacket out of blanket-weight fleece. It has a heavy weight zipper, collar and pockets. I am just amazed at the seam thicknesses it sewed through. I would never have even attempted many of the things I did to this machine on my expensive machine. At the price and quality, this machine can't be beat. Others have complained that it is made out of plastic, which it is -- but very heavy plastic. I forgot and left my desk lamp on, with a 60 watt bulb, resting right near the top of the machine. It got so hot I couldn't touch it for 15 minutes, but no damage was done. I am spoiled by many things my expensive machine will do, and will continue to use it. However, I can't wait to make a quilt with this machine, and have ordered the quilting and 1/4" foot. This machine will always be set up and ready to go no matter what project I am working on.

Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine,
I am very pleased with the performance of this machine. The automatic threader did break after the first few uses and am not able to find the part for repair. It does come unthreaded quite easily but am learning to keep a long thread after each seam so this does not happen as often. I make purses and have to sew over many layers of fabric and this machine glides over them easily with no broken needles! Over all, I am very pleased with my machine.

My Singer Heavy Duty,
The speed of this machine is wonderful. But, it has no adjustment for changing the amount of pressure for the presser foot, because of this my fabric doesn't feed properly. It gets quite frustrating. I have several other machines including an old tredle and they all have the adjuster. Why doesn't this one have it?

Mixed Results from Singer Heavy-Duty Sewing Machine,
By Rocketteer "PTM" (Central New Jersey USA) - See all my reviews

The instruction booklet that comes with this machine is very hard to understand. It was not written by someone who speaks English and is translated poorly. I have had a terrible time winding bobbins and have resorted to using my mid 1960's Singer Rocketteer as a bobbin winder.
I have every foot imaginable for my 1960's machine. Everyone of them is steel and screws securely to the machine. The plastic snap on feet on this machine are flimsy and wobbly. There is no way to make them more secure. I like the speed of this machine. When I can get a decently wrapped bobbin I can get through projects in record time. I like the bed which allows me to handle tight turns without stopping and starting. I like not searching through 3 boxes of cams to find the right decorative stitch. With a decent manual, a way to wind bobbins and feet that really stay put, this could be a terrific machine. Unfortunately, it is a pain in the neck.

Singer HD110,

I recently purchased the HD110. I read many of the reviews. Some I agree with and others I believe have no merit.
I found the HD110 lighting to be poor, but that is due to the needle threader which I find very helpful, so I use a lamp, no real problem! The case is plastic, but I find it very sturdy. The only thing is on the back of the extension around the free arm does not go to the table and is a bit unstable. But again this is no real big problem for me. It sews beautifully even through 6 layers of heavy canvas. I am currently sewing a dress of gingham and it wants to pull up but I will figure it out. I love the speed of the machine. I have sewen at a factory for 22 years and my old machine was sooo slow. I had a little problem sewing on knit but I am not ready to give it up, I again will figure it out. Threading it was a bit of a challenge, but I got it fiured out also. In all it is sewing what I want. |
