5.0 out of 5 stars Life breathed into trailer through music, March 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993 Film) (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is one of Bruce Broughton's best yet! It has an exceptional universal theme of the need to want to get home. He has captured the omnipotent sense of adventure, the sense that some composers forget. This score is far superior to Mr. Broughton's score for "The Rescuers Down Under," followed by the great score for "Lost In Space," which I love. Mr. Broughton has a unique gift of being able to make each of his scores so, that you cannot tell what his other work is. He is diverse, and versatile in many respects. I admire that. I heard the theme from this movie in the "Pleasantville" film trailer, and it adds so much depth to the trailer it makes me wish that they would have used it in the actual film. But, seeing as though I also love the work of Randy Newman in that film, it is a useless request. I will always love this score! So!.....what next, Mr. Broughton? Kudos to you, sir!

3.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING SOUNDTRACK, but could have been better., January 19, 2009
This review is from: Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993 Film) (Audio CD)
I gotta say, Bruce Broughton did an amazing job on the music, and it deserves 5 stars BUT there are some flaws.
First off, its missing two songs that could have easily fit into the CD. One is when Sassy is in the river, the other is when Shadow is injured under the train tracks. The music is great in those scenes so i don't see why they would just not put them on there which is quite disappointing considering they had room.
Another thing is the price. wow, rare indeed, you cant even download this one online!
I paid [...] bucks for this soundtrack because i love the music and it was worth it too me.
Other than the missing tracks and price, its an great soundtrack.

I first saw this movie as a kid, and I loved it. It was funny, heartwarming, and beautiful. The scenery in this film is amazing and I love the animals as well. (We almost named our dog Shadow as a result!) I watched it recently and realized that even at 25, I still love it.

The soundtrack is one of the better scores I've heard. Bruce Broughton does an excellent job having a theme for each animal and for the family they are going back to. The music does what it's supposed to - it tugs at your heart, makes you laugh, and has you hoping for the animals to succeed in their venture.

I highly recommend this soundtrack - it is a rare treasure.
