About the Author

William Mulder was born in Holland in 1915. He emigrated to the United States with his parents in 1920. He was the founding director of the University of Utah's Institute for American Studies and of the Center for Intercultural Studies, and he was for many years the editor of Western Humanities Review. An emeritus professor of American studies at the University of Utah, Mulder received the Governor's Award in the Humanities from the Utah Humanities Council in 1999.
