Book Description

9 and upInternet @ction
You're on a mission--a mission to write that report, do that research, study for that test, make it to the head of the class. Blast off into cyberspace and you can accomplish all this and more, faster than you'd ever imagine. Behind that computer screen is a universe of information just waiting to be accessed: over a billion different files, with thousands more added each day. Need help with a project? Contact an expert, because almost everyone working in universities and colleges has e-mail, and they'll tell you the truth about dinosaurs, science, history, and more. (You'll learn the proper "netiquette" for asking, too!) Or, check out special "homework sites," like TeacherNet; newsgroups on your assigned topic; and chat rooms for inspiring ideas. And, beef up your skills by using the computer for practice memorizing dates, spelling, multiplication tables, and lots of other subjects. Before long, you'll be an A+ student!

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-6-These colorful British imports can be helpful to students who need guidance getting started with the Internet as well as to advanced users who want to fine-tune their skills. With spot illustrations, boxes, or dialogue balloons on every page, the format is a bit cluttered but easy to navigate. Both books cover some of the same topics, but Chilling Out emphasizes using the Internet for activities such as chatting, games, creating electronic cards, etc. Homework Busters explains both simple and advanced searching techniques, discusses accuracy of information, and gives guidelines for a sample Web project and making and publishing a Web page. Introductions explain what the Internet is and how to get connected. There are cautions about providing personal information, avoiding advertisements, copying (cutting and pasting without citing), and tying up the phone line. These titles don't have to be read in front-to-back sequence as each section can be used independently.
