Book Description

Homework Helpers: Basic Math and Pre-Algebra is a straightforward and easy-to-read review of arithmetic skills. It includes topics that are intended to help prepare students to successfully learn algebra, including:

• Working with fractions • Understanding the decimal system • Calculating percentages • Solving linear equalities • Graphing functions • Understanding word problems

This book will help build a solid mathematical foundation and enable students to gain the confidence they need to continue their education in mathematics. Particular attention is placed on topics that students traditionally struggle with the most. The final chapter in the book covers word problems in detail, and several problem-solving strategies are discussed. While this book could be used to supplement standard pre-algebra textbooks, it could also be used to refresh your arithmetic and problem-solving skills.

The topics are explained in everyday language before the examples are worked. The problems are solved clearly and systematically, with step-by-step instructions provided. Problem-solving skills and good habits, such as checking your answers after every problem, are emphasized. There are practice problems throughout each book, and the answers to all of the practice problems are provided.

If you are trying to refresh your basic math skills from high school, then this is the book for you. I have checked out several different basic math guides, including the "for Dummies" one, and this one is by far the best. It's small enough to fit in my bag, but still explains the problems well. I am doing so well with it that I am looking into the other topics that are covered by the series.

We all know the feeling of "I understood there would be no math"...and it is a fact math was one of my worst subjects in school and I never did get the concept of algebra....this book was a great help in refreshing my memory of the math equations I did remember and in helping me understand the more difficult areas...I am progressing slowly with it at my own pace and so I havent completed all the chapters but it is very good has great sample problems so you can digest the information both by numbers and words....I recommend it highly for the lay person like myself.

I love this series. I have the Chemistry one, but I wanted to wait on that and do all the math series first. I love math, but I rot at it. I've tried a lot of tricks. And simple studying is the best way to learn. Classes do not work for me, I'm dominately an autodidact/unschooler/homeschooler (whatever), and this series is a great tool for those who want to either brush up on their skills or really learn the calculations without seeing a textbook filled game ideas or other distractions this is just what is calculations simply and clearly illustrated no fluff just fun. And just cause a book doesn't have the color and highlights doesn't mean it isn't the best.Love it.
